  Description

  Hi from Costa Rica! 🌴
  
  We are a family of four with German, Portuguese and Belgian roots, living on our finca close to Cahuita, on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. Our kids are 4 and 7 years old.
  
  Before coming here we lived in different countries, also many years in Dahab, Egypt. Now we are building our dream life here, surrounded by jungle, animals and lots of nature.
  
  Our property is quite big, around 67 hectares, with tropical forest, open land, rivers and even our own lovely waterfall. We regularly see monkeys and sloths around here. Sometimes they are closer to the house than you would expect!
  
  We have farm animals, four big dogs, two children and always some project going on. So normally it is never boring here. 😅
  Our idea for the future is to create a little neighborhood with a few other families, where everybody have their own home and privacy, but we can also help each other and spend time together. Not a commune or a big eco-village, just a nice place to live.
  
  We would love to welcome people who like nature, children and animals, and who don't mind that things are sometimes a bit chaotic here.
  
  We are still building and improving many things, so please don't expect everything to be finished and perfect. But if you enjoy being part of a place that is growing and changing, you might really like it here.

  We have lived in different countries and always enjoyed meeting people from all over the world.
  
  We like hearing about other cultures, different ways of living, sharing food, stories and experiences.
  
  Here you can see what daily life on a tropical finca is really like. Taking care of animals, growing fruits,, working on different projects and sometimes just finding solutions for problems you didn't even know you could have in the jungle.
  We are happy to share what we know, but also very interested in learning from you.
  
  Maybe you know something about gardening, building, cooking, languages or something completely different. Everybody has their own experiences and ideas.
  
  Sometimes we cook or eat together, have a barbecue, play games or just sit and talk. But you don't have to spend all your free time with us. We understand that everybody also needs some privacy.
  
  For our children it's especially nice to meet people from different countries and hear other languages.
  We hope you will enjoy your time here, learn some new things and maybe go home with a few funny jungle stories to tell.

  Aide

  There are many different things where we could use some help, and it really depends on what you like doing and what you are good at.
  
  With our children
  We would be very happy about somebody who enjoys spending time with kids. Playing, reading, doing creative things, music, sports or just exploring outside together.
  We are interested in alternative ways of learning, like Montessori, Waldorf and learning through nature.
  If you speak German, it would be nice for our children to practice more. And if you speak Spanish, even better, because we all still have some learning to do there!
  
  Building and fixing things
  There is always something to build or repair on a finca like ours.
  We are working on finishing our sauna, improving paths, making furniture, animal shelters and also planning more guest accommodation.
  So if you like working with wood, building things or if you are good in finding practical solutions, there is plenty to do. Of course, only things you feel comfortable and experienced with. We don't expect everybody to be a professional builder or craftsman!
  
  Animals and garden
  So far we have cows, goats, sheep, chickens, geese, ducks, turkeys and dogs. Oh, and a cat of course.
  There is feeding, looking after the animals, fixing or building shelters, planting, gardening and all the other little things that come with having a little farm.
  
  Other things
  Do you enjoy cooking or helping around the household? Or are you good in photography, making videos or social media content? This can also be useful for us.
  We are quite flexible. Some people are great with children, others prefer working outside or building something. We don't expect you to do everything!
  
  The most important thing for us is that you are reliable, can work a bit independently and tell us honestly what you like doing and what not.

  We are a multilingual, international family! Joel speaks French, Spanish, English, and Portuguese, while I speak German and English and would absolutely love to improve my Spanish! Our two children speak German and English, and we would love for them to strengthen their German skills and continue improving their Spanish in a natural, playful way. We especially welcome volunteers who enjoy language exchange, whether through everyday conversations, reading with the children, playing games, or simply spending time together. We believe that learning languages is so much more fun when it happens naturally through friendships, shared experiences, and daily life!

  Hébergement

  You will stay in a separate little house on our property, about a 10-minute walk from our family home. So you have your own space and plenty of privacy.
  
  The house has two bedrooms with two beds each, a shared bathroom, kitchen and a living and dining area. The bedrooms can be locked, and we can accommodate up to four volunteers.
  
  There is running water and electricity from solar power.
  
  One important thing to know: At the moment, there is no paved access road to our property, so you need a good 4x4 vehicle to get here. But once you're on the finca, you can easily walk between the guesthouse and our family home in about 10 minutes.
  
  And yes, this is really jungle. After heavy rain the paths can be muddy, and insects, frogs, geckos and other little visitors are normal here. So in case you are scared of every spider, maybe this is not the best place for you. 😉
  We think it's nice that everybody has their own space. But of course you are always welcome to join us for meals or just spending some time together.
  
  We also have a waterfall and rivers on the property, and our sauna is nearly finished.

  Autres infos...

  We live in a beautiful but quite rural area, so please keep in mind that you cannot just walk to the next supermarket or café.
  The Caribbean beaches are around 10 minutes away by car, and Cahuita with its national park, restaurants, cafés and beaches is about a 20 minutes drive from here.
  
  There are also many other nice places around the Caribbean coast to explore.
  We regularly go shopping, to town or to the beach, and if it works out you can always come with us. But we cannot promise to drive you around every day.
  
  If you have your own transportation, you will definitely be more independent. And remember, for the road to our farm you currently need a suitable 4x4.
  
  We are a family with two young children, so our home is not a party place. We don't mind having fun, of course, but excessive drinking, drugs and loud parties are not what we are looking for.
  
  We like people who are open, honest and easy to talk to. If something is bothering you, just tell us. We prefer talking about things instead of making them complicated.
  
  And one last thing: Life here doesn't always follow a perfect plan. Sometimes the rain changes everything, sometimes an animal needs attention, sometimes a project takes much longer than expected.
  That's just part of living here.
  
  If you like nature, animals, children and don't mind getting your shoes muddy sometimes, we would be happy to hear from you!

  We have Starlink internet, so working online is generally possible here! We are happy to welcome digital nomads who would like to combine their remote work with jungle life and cultural exchange. We can discuss schedules individually to find a good balance between your online work, helping with our projects, and enjoying your free time. Please keep in mind that internet connections can occasionally be affected by weather or technical issues, as we live in a remote tropical location.

  Possibilité d'accueillir les animaux

  We love animals and already have four large dogs living on our property, along with other farm animals. Bringing your own pet might be possible, but we would need to discuss this individually beforehand. It is very important that your pet gets along well with other animals, especially our dogs, and that everyone can live together safely and comfortably. Please contact us before making any plans to bring your pet, so we can see whether it would be a good fit. 🐾❤️
