    Description

Hello! We are Florian (French), Rachel (English) and baby Odette (Frenglish). We live in an isolated farmhouse we are rebuilding in the middle of a forest with our 3 donkeys, 10 chickens, and 2 big dogs. We are looking for long term help (at least 1 month) with our animals and with baby care as Rachel goes back to part time work at home, starting ASAP around the beginning of January. If you are interested, please read our full profile before contacting us so we can find the best possible fit for our family and for you.

    WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for one person or a couple who enjoy living a slow life in the wilderness. You might enjoy reading by the fire, playing board games, hiking and foraging in the forest around our home. You are very comfortable around dogs (our two are big!), kind and gentle with babies, and happiest when you're getting muddy in the woods.

We want to create a safe and loving environment for our baby, animals and visitors (including you!), so we are hoping for a calm and kind person or couple to come winter in the woods with us. You are comfortable with the quiet... we go out a few times a week to lovely markets or to see friends, and you're welcome to join. But there will be multiple days in the week where we stay home, 3km from the nearest neighbour. You are welcome to use our electric bike to get out by yourself.

As you will be taking care of our baby, we are looking for someone who does not smoke or drink much alcohol. We do not have a TV and ask people not to use technology like smartphones and iPads when caring for our baby. For the right profile, some payment is possible.

    THE ACCOMODATION

Our home is an abandoned farm which Florian is rebuilding.

Our home is 3km down a mud and gravel track. You can enjoy beautiful views of the pyrenees and the occasional sweet sound of Rachel shouting at the kites and buzzards as they try to sneak off with a chicken. We drink water from the spring on our land (it's tested for safety). We have access to mains electricity.

At the moment, we have a lovely finished kitchen and bathroom with a shower and bathtub. Your bedroom has a comfy double bed and is also clean and renovated, but small. The rest of the house is liveable and increasingly comfortable, but still being built. (Think concrete and piles of power tools ). All our heating is by a log fire. This means the living room is cosy and warm and bedrooms are cooler but liveable with a baby - it's a good idea to have plenty of layers and we can offer you an electric blanket.

    THE HOSTS
Florian is French, he travelled for 6 years doing workaway and hitchhiking around the world. He is building our house and working locally in IT. Rachel is English, she is the editor of a magazine about food security and agroecology. She works from home.

We were vegetarians for 10 years, so we are happy to host veggies. But now we eat meat and Florian does some hunting.

    THE HELP
If you are a single person, we would like about 1 hour a day help with donkeys and chickens, 1 hour a day help with house work and 3 hours a day looking after our baby. If you are a couple, we will discuss the best way to divide the time. We will probably set up a meal rota for cooking lunch and dinner - this time cooking will of course be part of your "working" hours. For the right profile (especially a single person), we are open to the possibility of paying for the baby sitting hours.

Nearby are local hotsprings, skiing in the winter months, and lots of hiking to discover in the mountains. Our nearest town is Bagneres de Bigorre where there is a library, a wonderful market, some restaurants etc.

You'll have a double bed in your own clean, renovated, but small bedroom. We have hot water and flushing toilets. Much of the house is still in major renovation mode.

We live in the middle of the forest, far from any neighbours.
You won't have wifi, but we have a data sim so you can check your emails and do your travel research, etc. It can't be used for streaming movies, though.

We can host people with other projects but internet isn't up to much. Rachel occasionally goes to a coworking space in a nearby town, and it's possible you might want to come along - super fast internet, but costs about 8 euros a day to be at the coworking.

A small van like a berlingo could make it down our track. A big campervan would struggle on the hairpin bends and mud track. Let us know about your vehicle and we will advise.

We have two male dogs (one is not castrated), chickens, and donkeys. We would consider accepting animals on a case-by-case basis.
