Description
We're a French-German family; Malin (38), Michel (45) and our little sons Josha (4,5) and Lévi (2), living in the north of Germany near Bremen. To our family also belong some dogs, cats and horses and our au pair. Michel is an engineer in aerospace, I'm a high school teacher. We both speak English, German and French fluently. Three years ago we bought a house in the countryside with a large property (8000m²) in order to fulfil some of our long kept dreams: Keeping horses right in front of the house, having enough space to take on cats and dogs that need help, grow vegetables and lots of wild flowers etc. in our own garden, in general creating a place where both humans and animals as well as plants can a live a good and healthy life. To this eco-friendly lifestyle also belongs that we live on a vegetarian/mostly vegan diet, that we try to repair and reuse things instead of buying new stuff all the time, avoid using plastic as much as possible, that we plan to create more and more places that serve as a refuge for wild animals (like insects, birds, squirrels, frogs etc.) and so on. Well, we do as much as we can, but sometimes you also have to make compromises. For example, we have an electric car (which we use most of the time) but also a bigger hybrid one for emergencies and to pull our horse trailer etc.. Anyway, we really like our life out here in this little village where the city is not too far away, but you can still enjoy a very calm and green atmosphere when going on trail rides, walking the dogs or doing some gardening. But it is a lot of work too and sometimes it is simply too much for the two of us.
This is one reason why we decided to look for people from abroad who would like to share our life for some time, helping us with the animals, the garden, the house and realizing some more eco-friendly projects. We're also open to new ideas! There's lots of room for anything you can think of. Another reason why we would like to welcome workawayers in our home is that we love the cultural exchange. I have travelled a lot as a couchsurfer and been a workawayer myself in my twenties and always enjoyed meeting people from all around the world, making friends and discovering new ways of living and thinking. Now that we have a kid, a house and alle those animals, travelling has become more difficult. So it would be great to have travellers come to us instead and share their stories with us! As it takes some time to get to know each other, we would love to have people who want to stay for at least 2-3 months (or longer!).

Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre
If you come to our place, you could practice your German, English or French. I'm a language teacher and Michel uses all three languages everyday at work, so we would be very willing to help. Also, you can learn something about animal care, especially horses. I could give you riding lessons if you want to and teach you how to interact with them. Horses actually have their own language, which is really fascinating. In terms of gardening and growing vegetables we could learn a lot together, as we're still more or less beginners in this field. Cultural exchange would be given anyway as we are a "mixed couple" raising bilingual children and we have a lot of travelling stories etc. to share. We also love to discover new (plant-based) food and are very open-minded in general. By the way, the age, gender or ethnicity of our workawayers do not matter to us, as long as we get along well and speak at least one common language.

Aide
On the one hand we could use help in our everyday lives, that is: gardening, taking care of our dogs, cats and horses, doing some household chores, babysitting, cooking and so on. On the other hand there are projects that we would like to realize like building a little greenhouse, planting bee-friendly wild flower meadows etc. What exactly you would help us with also depends on your skills and interests.

Hébergement
You would have your own room within our house. It is not very big, but really cosy as its floor and most of the walls are covered with wood. OR you could stay in our caravan. Apart from that you could share our big kitchen and living-room, as well as the terrace and our pool (in summer). We would like to have at least one meal together everyday (taking turns with cooking), the rest of the time you could just help yourself to the food you find (and tell us what to bring for you when when go grocery shopping)..

Autres infos...
We live about 30 km north of Bremen. It is possible to go to the city centre by public transport, but it takes a bit more than an hour. So if we don't need our car, you can borrow it (if you have a driving-license of course ;-) . In your time off you could go on trips to the North Sea (one-hour-drive) or to bigger cities like Hamburg or Hannover (also about one hour away from us). In the local area there are also some shops and supermarkets, a few sights and a cinema. The area around our village is great for cycling, horseback-riding and inline skating as there's a lot of open space as well as a huge forest. In Bremen there's a big international community where you can easily make new friends. Of course you would also meet our friends in the neighborhood and the owners of the other horses that come here everyday. And if you don't feel like socialising in your time off, you can just relax outside by the pool for example, reading a good book (we have a lot of those to offer ;-) ).
