  Description

  The finca is located in the northeast of the island of La Palma in the municipality of Puntallana.
  We - Michael (56) and Maria (33) and our seven and a half cats - have the vision to develop a place where an alternative, sustainable life in community is possible.
  
  The 1 ha property includes a so-called Barranco, which can be reached by a footpath of about 5 minutes. The barranco gets its basic structure from an already existing terracing, a water collection cave and an initial tree population (avocado, mango, papaya, khaki, figs, pomegranate, cherimoya, lemon). The wind-protected location in the barranco together with a relative abundance of rainfall and the mild desert climate allow the cultivation of a variety of mainly subtropical fruit varieties.

  Unsere Finca befindet sich im Nordosten der Insel La Palma in der Gemeinde Puntallana.
  Wir - das sind Michael (56) und Maria (33) und unsere siebeneinhalb Katzen - haben die Vision, einen Ort zu schaffen, an dem ein alternatives, nachhaltiges Leben in Gemeinschaft möglich ist.
  
  Zum 1 ha großen Grundstück gehört ein so genannter Barranco, der über einen Fußweg von ca. 5 Minuten erreichbar ist. Der Barranco erhält seine Grundstruktur durch eine bereits vorhandene Terrassierung und einen anfänglichen Baumbestand (Avocado, Mango, Papaya, Khaki, Feige, Granatapfel, Cherimoya, Zitrone ). Die windgeschützte Lage im Barranco, die vergleichsweise reichhaltigen Regenfälle sowie das milde Wüstenklima ermöglichen den Anbau einer Vielzahl von vor allem subtropischen Obstsorten.

  Staying with us gives you the opportunity to improve your Spanish in contact with locals. You can also develop your skills in gardening and craftsmanship. Sometimes we practice Yoga and we sing kirtan, then you are welcome to join us.
  
  Der Aufenthalt bei uns bietet dir die Möglichkeit, im Kontakt mit Einheimischen dein Spanisch zu verbessern. Zudem kannst du dich gärtnerisch und handwerklich weiterentwickeln. Manchmal praktizieren wir Yoga und Mantra singen, dann bist du herzlich dazu eingeladen.

  Aide

  Over the spring we spent a lot of time reforesting our garden. Since the summer we have been devoting most of our time to our development and Maria is pregnant, so our newly repaired garden is suffering greatly.
  
  We are looking for a motivated workawayer who would like to take over the care and maintenance of the garden for a longer period of time. It is important to us that you has some experience with large garden machinery (brush cutter, chipper) and that you work responsibly and with a sense of risk.
  You will be well trained in all activities that arise.
  
  Typical tasks are:
  - Watering (mainly drip irrigation; however, sometimes - still - manual watering is necessary); control of and further establishment of drip irrigation.
  - Control and if necessary care of the plants, fertilizing with own worm compost
  - Removal of weeds, especially blackberry vines
  - tree pruning
  - shredding of cuttings, mulching
  - path work (laying and repairing natural stone stairs)
  
  Other tasks may include helping with construction issues under the expert guidance of local craftsmen (e.g. cementing) or cooking for our communal meal.
  
  For the approximately 5-minute descent into the barranco, you should have some physical fitness, surefootedness and a normally developed sense of balance. Heavy and bulky things can only be carried down or up on your back.

  Über das Frühjahr haben wir viel Zeit damit verbracht, unseren Garten aufzuforsten. Da wir uns seit dem Sommer fast ausschließlich unserer Bebauung widmen und Maria schwanger ist, leidet unser neu instand gesetzter Garten sehr.
  
  Wir suchen einen motivierten Workawayer, der für einen längeren Zeitraum die Pflege und Erhaltung des Gartens übernehmen möchte. Uns ist wichtig, dass du etwas Erfahrung mit großen Gartenmaschinen (Freischneider, Häcksler) mitbringt und dass du verantwortungs- und risikobewusst arbeitest.
  Du wirst in alle anfallenden Tätigkeiten gut eingearbeitet.
  
  Typische Aufgaben sind:
  • Gießen (vorwiegend Tröpfchenbewässerung; teilweise muss jedoch – noch – händisch gegossen werden); Kontrolle der und weiteres Anlegen von Tröpfchenbewässerung
  • Kontrolle und ggf. Pflege der Pflanzen, Düngen mit eigenem Wurmkompost
  • Unkraut entfernen, v.a. Brombeerranken
  • Bäume pflegen, Triebe entfernen
  • Häckseln von Schnittgut, Mulchen
  • Wegearbeiten (Anlegen und Ausbessern von Natursteintreppen)
  
  Weitere Aufgaben können auch die Mithilfe bei baulichen Angelegenheiten unter fachkundiger Anleitung örtlicher Handwerker (z.B. Zementieren) oder das Kochen für unsere gemeinsame Mahlzeit sein.
  
  Für den etwa 5-minütigen Abstieg in den Barranco solltest du über ein bisschen körperliche Fitness, Trittsicherheit und einen normal entwickelten Gleichgewichtssinn verfügen. Schwere und sperrige Dinge können nämlich nur auf dem Rücken hinab bzw. hinauf befördert werden.

  We have been on La Palma for just under a year and are still spending a lot of time learning Spanish ourselves. You are welcome to accompany us on shopping trips, visits, etc. in your free time and try out your Spanish in contact with the locals. Wir sind erst seit einem knappen Jahr auf La Palma und verbringen selbst noch viel Zeit damit, Spanisch zu lernen. Gerne könnt ihr uns in eurer Freizeit zu Einkaufstouren, Besuchen und Ähnlichem begleiten, und dabei im Kontakt mit Einheimischen euer Spanisch erproben.

  Hébergement

  You will be accommodated in our caravan with electricity and internet connection and double bed. You will have an outdoor shower and toilet with a view of the sea.
  
  We are happy if you would like to participate in a common meal every day. Otherwise you can use the well-equipped cooking facilities in the caravan. You can take whatever vegetarian food you need with you.
  
  You are right with us, if the following points are also important to you:
  - vegetarian food
  - abstention from addictive and stimulant substances (except coffee and black tea)
  
  The working time should be 4 hours from monday to friday (20 hours/week). The time is freely divisible for you. Since the Barranco heats up a lot during the day (it is surrounded by stone walls on three sides), it can be useful to work quite early or in the evening on hot days.

  Du wirst in unserem Wohnwagen mit Strom- und Internetanschluss und Doppelbett unterkommen. Dir stehen Außendusche und -toilette mit Blick aufs Meer zur Verfügung.
  
  Wir freuen uns, wenn du an einer gemeinsamen Mahlzeit täglich teilnehmen möchtest. Ansonsten steht dir die gut ausgestattete Kochgelegenheit im Wohnwagen zur Verfügung. Du kannst dir bei uns an vegetarischen Lebensmitteln mitnehmen, was du benötigst.
  
  Du bist bei uns richtig, wenn folgende Punkte dir ebenfalls wichtig sind:
  - vegetarisches Essen
  - Verzicht auf Sucht- und Genussmittel (ausgenommen Kaffee und Schwarztee)
  
  Die Arbeitszeit soll montags bis freitags 4 Stunden (20 Std./Woche) umfassen. Die Zeit ist für dich frei einteilbar. Da sich der Barranco tagsüber sehr erwärmt (er ist zu drei Seiten von Steinwänden umgeben), kann es an heißen Tagen sinnvoll sein, Arbeiten recht früh oder abends zu verrichten.

  The nearest bus stop is about a 20-minute walk from us. You can catch line 100 (Santa Cruz - Barlovento) there and travel to the capital Santa Cruz in about 20 minutes.
  There are plenty of lovely swimming spots on the east side of the island - the town beach at Santa Cruz, gentle waves at Los Cancajos, the sea pools at La Fajana in the northeast, or the spectacular, not without danger, Playa de Nogales. The latter can even be reached on foot in about 40 minutes.
  La Palma has a well signposted network of hiking trails. For example, the Camino Real, which circles the whole island, passes almost in front of our front door.
  In addition to the cities of Santa Cruz and Los Llanos, the Roque de los Muchachos (with 2,426 m the highest mountain on the island), the observatories located up there and the Los Tilos waterfall are tourist highlights of the island. Of course, a visit to the volcano that erupted last year and a ride on the newly built road through the lava tube are also worthwhile.

  Die nächste Bushaltestelle ist von uns zu Fuß etwa 20 Min. entfernt. Du kannst dort die Linie 100 (Santa Cruz - Barlovento) erreichen und innerhalb von etwa 25 Minuten in die Hauptstadt Santa Cruz fahren.
  Es gibt viele schöne Bademöglichkeiten auf der Ostseite der Insel - den Stadtstrand in Santa Cruz, sanften Wellengang in Los Cancajos, die Meeresschwimmbecken in La Fajana im Nordosten, oder den spektakulären, nicht ungefährlichen Strand Playa de Nogales. Letzterer ist von uns aus sogar fußläufig in ca. 40 Minuten zu erreichen.
  La Palma verfügt über ein gut ausgeschildertes Netz von Wanderwegen. Fast vor unserer Haustür führt z.B. der Camino Real vorbei, der die ganze Insel einmal umrundet.
  Neben den Städten Santa Cruz und Los Llanos sind der Roque de los Muchachos (mit 2.426 m der höchste Berg der Insel), die dort oben befindlichen Sternwarten und der Wasserfall Los Tilos touristische Highlights der Insel. Natürlich lohnt sich auch eine Besichtigung des Vulkans, der im letzten Jahr ausgebrochen ist, und eine Fahrt über die neu gebaute Straße durch die Lavawalze.
