    Description

Covid19 coronavirus update: We are still accepting Workawayers!
    However please note that:
    - We can only accept if you can describe how you have been taking care and following recommended practices over the last few weeks.
    - Any workawayers should expect to eat humbly and be able to cook healthy meals with wholesome ingredients - we have abundant food, but it is not fast or packaged food - we will be eating nearly 100% food from scratch which means lots of legumes and garden veggies!

Join us and feel the healing of the land on 100 acres. Be part of a bustling dynamic farm family, eat healthy food, and work a variety of home and farm tasks. We live on a gorgeous farm with forest, field, creek, garden, eagles nesting, salmon spawning, a chorus of frogs, big trees, gorgeous views and wide open skies.
We grow hemp in the fields and food in the garden using permaculture and regenerative land practices. We also have some cows, chickens, a sweet dog, and a cat.
We love hosting as it brings different cultures, worldviews, languages, art, cooking and friendships into our lives when we are unable to travel ourselves due to farm responsibilities. In exchange for hosting, we ask for basic contributions to elements of farm life: gardening, cooking, cleaning, and childcare. At certain times of year there is the opportunity to help with hemp farming as well.
Our main mission is to be an inclusive and safe place for workawayers, while also gaining cultural exchange and a little help keeping on top of our crazy, sometimes chaotic, wonderful family life.
If you stay with us you'll witness (and be welcomed to participate!) in whole-child parenting (kids age 4 and 8), pet snuggles (cats, dog, chickens), mini dance parties, delicious healthy whole foods meals, political conversations about decolonization in Canada and more...

Important: When you message us, please share a little bit about how you resonate with our profile. We do not respond to messages that only say your name and when you want to come.

Our family is mixed indigenous and european descent. Staying with us you'll learn about indigenous resurgence, Canada's colonial history and the current work of reconciliation, and indigenous relationship to the land. You'll also have the opportunity to learn about permaculture, organic gardening and hemp farming. We are a alternative family who focuses our energy away from mainstream culture and values, and towards a life-sustaining society that promotes diversity, inclusivity, resilience, holistic health practices, and deconstructing the patriarchal, capitalistic environmentally destructive systems of oppression that impact us all. But don't worry, we aren't extreme!
We are not on a bus route, but we can show you where the nearest bus stop is (25 minute walk). We also offer to take you on adventures such as forest walks, town trips, and beach trips. Helpers do best here when they are okay with staying on the farm most days.

We need different help at different times of year, and are also interested in learning what workawayers have to offer and finding opportunities for them to share their skills with us. Mostly we need help with routine tasks in gardening, farming, childcare and house work. There are a few projects available to the right person, including retrofitting the interiors of a working 1975 Mercedes bus, Small building projects, and creative design work.

    Hébergement

Large private room in a 100 year old rustic farm house. Shared bathroom and kitchen. You can make your own meals or share ours. We offer healthy whole foods (minimal packaged or ready-made items), and ask you to purchase any special items we don’t normally supply.
We eat minimal wheat & dairy, and try and only eat sustainable and ethically raised/harvested animal products. A great place for people who want to explore kale, brown rice, legumes, soups, stews and quinoa salads!
In the summertime we have to be careful of our water consumption, so workawayers may be asked to take short showers and we can teach different water saving techniques for day to day life.
In the wintertime our house can be a bit chilly and drafty so is best suited to 'hardy' folk (we can supply slippers, extra layers and jackets, and lots of warm blankets). Our main shared space where meals and story telling and day-planning occur is warmed by a wood stove. Nothing like gazing at the flickering flames to calm your soul.

We can pick you up from the Nanaimo Airport or the Duke Point and Horseshoe Bay ferry terminals. Occasionally we can pick up in Victoria.
Generally speaking, we can only receive new folk on Thursdays or fridays, so if you are contacting us about a last minute stay, those are the days we can pick you up/have you arrive.

We expect workawayers to be resourceful, independent, mature, healthy, courteous, and adaptabe. Our home is best suited to people who take initiative, have experience being independent (taking care of themselves, cleaning up after themselves, solving problems etc.). We prefer not to host people who want to spend all the free time in their rooms or online, or people who do not have experience being independent and hard working. Our place is best for people who truly want an immersive west coast family farm experience.

We offer references to those seeking jobs in Canada and worldwide and have provided reference letters and reference phone calls to many of our helpers.

*ABSOLUTELY no tolerance for cigarettes/vaping/commercial tobacco.
