We are interested in a placement, please let me know the window of dates you are expecting to visit the UK from 1st November.
I am a senior engineer. We are sociable and friendly, we have outdoor interests walking and enjoy spending time at home relaxing. We like to invite family and friends over for dinner.
I work full-time (7-4 pm) and my daughter is attending university. During the week, we have a clear routine. Breakfast 7-8 am and then tidy up. A light simple lunch at 12-1pm and then tidy up. Some activities until 5pm. We normally eat dinner 5-6pm and then tidy up. After 7pm, go for a walk/cycle or watch a movie. We enjoy parks and picnics are good. Other activities include gardening, painting, drawing, board games, cards, painting, singing, piano etc...
The best fit would be a person with good conversation and a love of cats 🐈 😻
We do not smoke and will only host non-smokers. We eat non-veg and veg, we have meals in the evening together, normally we try something new with a variety of spices and different recipes. I am pleased to experiment and encourage a healthy diet with fresh fruit and vegs. If you have any special dietary requirements, please let me know as soon as possible. We will try to cater for you and meet your requests.
Sometimes we house sit a small dog. Please let me know if you have animal/bird allergies.

I have a range of different nationality friends, namely French, German, Spanish, Greek Cypriot, Italian, Czech, Canadian, Indian, Pakistani, Danish, Norwegian, Polish, Romanian, Portuguese, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Thai and of course English.
Aide
We have an interest in home improvement including painting and gardening.
We have a garden which could benefit from some maintenance during the day including weeding and leaf clearing. Lastly, an evening meal can be prepared and salad.
We are looking for someone to join in helping in the home, if the arrangement works well for both parties, this could become a long-term hosting opportunity. However, we are pleased to host for a minimum period of 2-3 weeks if a short visit to the UK is preferred, so dates that would work have been identified and if you would like to stay for a longer period, we can discuss this during a whatsup video. Please share your number.
Driving is not essential, but a good sense of humour is critical. Haha!!
Cooking is from scratch, we like to experiment and will cook all types including Thai, Chinese and Indian cuisine with, of course some fast-food outings including Chinese or fish and chips.
We look forward to meeting you and creating some happy memories with you.....

Hébergement
We have a detached home with a bedroom available for a female "workawayer" and one shared family bathroom with shower. We have wifi available and washing machine, outdoor drying, fridge and freezer. The house is well insulated and is gas central heated. We appreciate your understanding of our family and will provide clear living guidelines upon arrival. We generally do not eat pork. Husband and daughter enjoy bacon and carbonara!

The area we live in is quiet and about 20 minutes walk or a bus service runs into the local town. There is a fast train service to London. You can walk to the woodlands and green open land. There are local shops and Tesco/Sainsburys close by. Thai/Chinese/Indian take away 15-20 minutes from the home plus a newsagent. We have a library with computer facilities and wifi. There are lots of local pubs nearby, Churches are welcoming if you are interested. Parks including National Trust woodlands.

When I arrived in the UK, I was made to feel very welcome. I had a very nice bedroom with a view. The home is very tidy and clean. The food was always fresh and lots of snacks and alternative foods available. Kitchen very good and we had fun preparing meals. They were always very nice and polite.
I was given the house rules and a list of… read more tasks to work on. All these were as per our discussions. We spoke in detail about the plans every day. They always encouraged me to explore as much as possible during my time off. Showed me places locally and further away. They know how to listen and give good advice. They are very youthful and fun. I've met many of their loving friends and they are super helpful too. They took me out to various places to eat and we enjoyed different nationality foods. I will hopefully return and stay again in the future. It was a great experience.

We… read more managed to see Windsor Castle Abingdon and Dorchester in Oxfordshire. We went to see the Cliveden National Trust property and certain places were restricted due to COVID-19. We baked cookies we cooked quiche Lorraine we tried cakes and cocktails. We had a lot of fun and I hope to stay in touch to be able to meet up in the future.

After having missed Marie for almost four weeks since her departure, I would have her back any day to be part of our family!
She was exceptionally good in adjusting to a new environment. A young lady who has a clear focus
on her goals in life able to differentiate between her chores and a daily work effort.
She ends up rising to every occasion… read more and always having a smile. We discovered that she was an
excellent cook always planned and organised. She helped me move from one house to another and
made the process seamless. I managed to take her to a few sites and would’ve liked to have explored
more, she was always very excited and appreciative. Time spent was a pleasure always.
Time was relatively short with us and due to COVID we had some complications with family
shielding. It was an enjoyable and nurturing experience which we would welcome again any time. I
wish Marie well in every venture she undertakes and hope that she will be back again someday.

I’ll totally miss the morning walks with S on our way to school talking about everything and full of expectations with the new day ahead. As I told you, I’ll never forget my 30th birthday with the whole family. Thank you again and I hope you have an amazing time in the new house!

Cristina has been a wonderful work away and shared much humour when it was really needed and her amazing cooking skills. Cristina has learnt a lot about the family and the interests of chilli (hahaha) over a short period of time and she spent a special birthday with our extended family. We visited Cookham and went to see a 12th century church then… read more attended a Christmas fair. Some weekends were busy with preparation and packing for a relocation of home. Her skills of organisation and planning were exceptionally helpful especially with the Christmas presents.
My daughter enjoyed the shared morning walks to school, she was able to engage in good conversation (Spanish) and debate. It was an eye opener and much development experienced. The pizza, carrot cake and chocolate cake were truly delightful. We saw Cristina as a sociable, considerate and very friendly girl with our family and friends who came to visit. Her English has improved and some of the local lingo was picked up, hopefully the British jokes and sayings will be remembered for future reference.
In our new home, she organised and set the living area and kitchen very nicely. She has a good sense of humour and always a smile early in the morning! We will miss her, but we understand she must obtain a first class in her studies. She will be welcome to return and stay with us any time and we hope to hear great news soon!

Jessica was with us for a short period and we enjoyed her company. She is a hard-working girl dedicated to her tasks and applied her initiative, which was very helpful. During her stay she took care of my child and focused on morning and night routines. I was very impressed with her patience and determination. She is very sociable, considering the… read more meet ups and outings we went on, very able to engage with both young and old. She helped me with sorting and packing items in the house, as well as taking things to the charity shop. A young lady of her years, who has had experience dealing in complex situations and many young children, this placement was a slightly new but Jessica was able to manage all essential requirements. Cooking was an area which was limited due to time constraints and practicalities therefore, this could be an area for development going forward.
We do hope to stay in touch and look forward to meeting up again in the future.

Very lovely and welcoming family, I was able to meet their family and friends when we went ice skating in Windsor. We had some lovely home cooked Italian and Indian food. My stay was short but we did a lot of sorting/clearing out of the house and general cleaning. Thank you for a lovely time.

Veronica was here for a very short and sweet stay. She has amazing cleaning skills and a very comprehensive understanding of English. She adjusted well and missed only her coffee from Italy. This is an amazing and welcoming family, always ready to help and trustful. My tasks with the daughter was tutoring with maths, English and French. Daily routine included tidying up and keeping the house clean, gardening and some cooking and experimenting with different recipes.

I have spent a really good time during my first Workaway experience with S... and her Daughter S... Both are friendly, sparkling and attentive to me.
During the week, I had to cook, do some home tasks and take care of Daughter S... All the tasks have been done in a good mood especially hair styles with various french plat. The weekends were nice,… read more they took the time to visit with me some places like Hampton Court Palace or a Sea food festival in the South coast in Weymouth. So in exchange to my help, they offered me the opportunity to discover the English culture. For me, that's a really good opportunity :blush:. I have a lot of good memories of my stay. And the most important one to me, is the discovery of Indian food. First, with her friend S... and then visiting a pan shop, which I have an amazing video.
To conclude, I have spent only a short time with this family. It's quick but it's enough to tell you that it's an amazing family and we will stay in touch for another exchange in the future.
