    Description

We are looking for a helper for this spring with lambing our ewes and caring for their lambs, guardian dogs, chickens, fencing, painting and hauling hay . We are a working sheep farm, grazing our sheep on the hills of our farm just outside Saskatoon Saskatchewan, Canada. Helpers can learn about lambs and ewes, our guardian dogs and how to feed them. We raise our own chickens and and sometimes pigs. We also grow our own hay and grain, so volunteers can learn about driving tractors, using farm equipment for seeding and harvesting, hauling hay, cutting wood, painting, fencing and working with antique tractors and machinery . As we have just moved to this farm, we have lots of building, fencing and remodeling to do. We enjoy traveling and having people from different countries visit our farm. You can stay in in one of our 2 bedrooms in our house. You can enjoy home grown, home cooked meals. We enjoy taking visitors to local events such as rodeos, museums, malls, hockey games and any other events they would like to see. Please remember that it can be cold in Saskatchewan in the spring months. We do have coats and boots and gloves available. If you have experience driving a tractor, have a drivers license, any experience with fencing would be very beneficial.

We have over 40 years experience in agriculture and enjoy teaching others about sustainable agriculture, rotational grazing, breeds of sheep and their care, farm machinery and equipment use and maintenance and about farm life in Western Canada. We also enjoy taking visitors to local and cultural events in the area. Bill is learning Spanish and is always interested in learning about other languages and exchanging stories on different countries and their cultures.

During the year, help us with the care of the ewes and lambs. In the summer volunteers can watch over the sheep in the pastures. Also feed the working dogs, pigs, chicks, chickens and gathering eggs. Helpers can be involved in tractor driving and machinery maintenance and painting. You can also learn how to drive tractors, haul hay, cut firewood and feed and care for the sheep and lambs. Depending on the weather, we put in about 5 hours a day. I always appreciate some help with house chores on rainy days. There is always time set aside for trips to the local town, museum or rodeo.

We always have a few lambs that need extra care and cats and dogs that need hugs. We raise chickens and will need help with their care and gathering eggs. In the spring the garden will need to prepared, seeded and maintained until fall harvest.

We prefer NON VEGETARIANS as I do not know how to cook vegetarian meals, and nearly all our meals are prepared with our home raised chicken, lamb, turkey, pork or local beef. Shopping and preparing 2 different meals at each sitting is too time consuming. If you are a vegetarian, please find a host that specializes in preparing vegetarian meals.
