    Description

We are a small, developing homestead in rural Nova Scotia. We are actively building and improving the land while living simply and working with what we have.
Right now, this is a work-in-progress homestead. Infrastructure is basic. Projects are ongoing. Days are hands-on and practical. This is not a finished farm, a retreat, or a polished operation — and we’re honest about that. *Please note all food produced is for personal consumption*

    Echange culturel et opportunités d'apprendre

Life here is shared. We work together, eat together, and talk through plans and ideas together. Most of the connection happens naturally — around meals, during projects, and in the downtime after a full day outside.
We live simply and intentionally. That means fewer distractions and more real conversation. We talk about food production, resilience, homesteading, entrepreneurship, life decisions, mistakes, growth, and long-term vision. If you enjoy meaningful discussion and practical thinking, you’ll feel at home.
    What We Can Share
Workawayers here can gain hands-on experience in:
Developing a working homestead from the ground up
    Food growing and perennial systems
    Firewood processing and land management
    Basic infrastructure building
    Off-grid and low-input living
    Practical problem-solving with limited resources
We can also share our experiences about committing to a different lifestyle, building something from nothing, and learning through trial and error instead of theory.
This isn’t classroom-style learning — it’s immersion. You’ll be involved in real decisions and real work.
    Social & Community
We’re located in a rural Nova Scotia community where life moves slower and people know each other. Depending on timing, there may be local markets, small community events, or opportunities to explore nearby lakes, woods, and coastline.
Evenings are usually relaxed — shared meals, planning the next steps, sometimes a fire outside, sometimes quiet time. It’s simple and grounded.
    What We Hope to Learn
We value hearing how other people live, think, and solve problems in their home countries. Different approaches to food production, building methods, culture, and mindset are always welcome.
If you bring a skill, a perspective, or even just a different way of seeing things, we’re open to learning from you too.

  • Aide

    Aide

We’re looking for practical, hands-on help with day-to-day homestead development and maintenance.
Most of the work is physical and outdoors. It can include:
Garden bed prep, planting, weeding, harvesting
Tree and berry planting and care
    Firewood cutting, splitting, stacking
    Fence building and repairs
    Land clearing and brush management
Basic carpentry and small building projects
Animal chores (feeding, cleaning, daily checks)
    General organizing and homestead upkeep
Work changes depending on the season and current priorities. Some days are steady and repetitive. Some are project-based. Weather is part of the equation.
The Kind of Person Who Fits Here
You don’t need to be an expert, but you do need:
    A strong work ethic
Comfort being outdoors in all kinds of weather
Physical capability for lifting, digging, carrying, and repetitive tasks
Willingness to listen and follow direction
Initiative — if you see something that needs doing, speak up
    Skills that are especially helpful:
    Carpentry or building experience
    Gardening or permaculture knowledge
    Mechanical skills
    Animal care experience
But attitude matters more than resume.
    Important
This is not a retreat, eco-resort, or vacation experience. The work is real and consistent. We operate as a team, and everyone contributes.
If you’re motivated to learn, build, and gain practical skills, you’ll get a lot from being here.

  • Hébergement

    Hébergement

Workawayers will stay in a simple, off-grid setup on our homestead property. Accommodation is modest and practical, not luxury.
Depending on the season and availability, sleeping arrangements may include a camper/trailer or a basic private sleeping space on the property. It is clean, safe, and functional.
    Important to understand:
    We live rurally and simply.
    Utilities are limited.
Water and power are managed carefully.
Internet access may be limited or basic.
This is not a hotel or retreat space. It’s part of an active homestead environment.
Bathroom facilities are simple and shared. Meals are shared and eaten together when possible. We aim to keep things respectful, tidy, and organized.
    If you are comfortable with:
    Basic living conditions
    Outdoor environments
    Limited amenities
    Shared spaces
    You’ll do well here.
If you require high-speed internet, long hot showers, climate-controlled comfort, or private luxury space, this likely won’t be a good fit.

    Time Off & Exploring
We are located in rural Nova Scotia, surrounded by woods, lakes, and coastline within driving distance. On days off, Workawayers can explore local trails, swim in nearby lakes (seasonal), visit small coastal towns, check out farmers markets, or simply enjoy quiet time in nature.
Because we are rural, having a driver’s license is helpful. Public transportation is very limited. We may be able to coordinate occasional rides into nearby towns depending on schedules, but independence is important.
If you enjoy hiking, reading, swimming, photography, or just decompressing in nature, this is a great place to recharge.
If you rely heavily on nightlife, city access, or constant activity, this location will feel very quiet.
    How We Live
We live simply and intentionally. This means:
    Shared meals when possible
    Respect for shared spaces
Clean-up after yourself (kitchen, tools, work areas)
    No drugs
    Responsible alcohol use only
    No smoking inside buildings
We start our days with a plan. Communication is direct and respectful. If something isn’t working, we talk about it.
This is a working homestead, not a party house or retreat center.
    Expectations
    Punctuality matters.
    Effort matters more than perfection.
Phones are fine during breaks, not during active work time.
Weather does not cancel responsibility — we adjust and continue.
We aim to create a positive, productive environment. Mutual respect is non-negotiable.

    Possibilité d’accueillir les digital nomads

Our homestead is a hands-on, off-grid working environment. Internet is very limited or non-existent. Don’t expect reliable Wi-Fi for Zoom meetings, streaming, or heavy digital work. If you are bringing digital work, it must be flexible and able to fit around homestead tasks. Work will come first; digital work comes second. Days involve physical labor outdoors: gardening, building, firewood, animal care, fencing, and general homestead maintenance. You should be prepared to join in fully. Power is not provided for electronics. Any devices must run off your own batteries, solar setup, or generator. Digital nomads who succeed here are those who: Are comfortable with limited connectivity Can structure work around hands-on tasks Value experience and learning over uninterrupted screen time Don’t expect the homestead to operate like a coworking space If you require constant internet, electricity, or a guaranteed quiet office space, this is not the right environment for you.

  • Espace pour garer des vans

    Espace pour garer des vans

We have space on the property for Workawayers traveling with their own camper, van, or motorhome. Important to know: No power hookups are available. Bring your own batteries, solar panels, or generator if needed. No water hookups are available. You must bring your own water supply. This is a rural, off-grid homestead. The space is level enough for parking but is not a serviced RV site. Waste disposal must be managed responsibly and discussed with us before arrival. This area is best suited for self-contained campers who are comfortable being completely independent. You’ll have privacy and space, but you are still part of a working homestead with tools, animals, and ongoing projects.
