Hello ! ... I'm David.
A mature english guy who has discovered a serene paradise here in the forest hills of the Massif des Maures in the south of France.
IMPORTANT UPDATE : April 2025 :
I only accept volunteers who can stay a minimum of 7 days, although ideally I would prefer if you could stay from 2 - 4 weeks, (ideally you need at least 2 weeks to discover and explore the surrounding area...which is beautiful !) You will have plenty of spare time, so hop on a local bus for just €1.50 and explore the beautiful coastline or typical provencal towns.
The house shown in here in the photographs is currently being prepared for sale and all of the heavy furniture has already been moved out.
I'm looking for helpers to organise, clean and paint the inside of the house and tidy up the garden. The work is straightforward and varied...and you will have plenty of spare time to explore the beautiful surroundings because I'm only asking for 3 hours help per day. There is a lake and the small mountain/rock of Roquebrune-sur-Argens 5 km away which makes a nice daytrip. Or you can take the bus from Roquebrune to Frejus/Saint Raphael and the famous Cote d'Azur beaches for just €1.50.
I have 2 bicycles for you to use, but you must have travel insurance cover !
While staying at the house you will be organising your own meals and cooking on a 3 ring calor gas stove. Because I am only asking for 3 hours help per day/5 days per week I am providing only basic food cover, (including pasta/rice/tinned fish/ tinned fruit and vegetables/ eggs/ cereals/ wine/tea and coffee. Any additional (fresh produce) such as meat, fresh bread etc. you will have to provide yourself. You will have more than enough food provided, so if you are on a tight budget you should not need to spend any money on food, (enough variety is already there).
You will have your own private-sphere accommodation directltly in the house. This accommodation is limited to 3 places for singles or couples....and is offered on a first-come-first serve basis.
The tiny stone cottage is situated 200 meters up in the peaceful forest with stunning views. It is 3.5 kilometers from the town of Roquebrune-sur-Argens.
The property is rustical and off-grid so you will need mobile data and a solar charged power bank to charge your phone !
Staying at the house is very much a back-to-basics experience and you will be outside your comfort zone, but if you love nature and the outdoors and have a sense of humour it will be a wonderful experience, as you can see by the feedback.
Clean drinking water is supplied in cannisters. There is a rain-water tank under the terrace for showering and washing the dishes, etc. It's a bit like glamping...
If you need a hot shower you have to boil a kettle on the gas cooker or wood burning stove and mix with cold water. No fancy rainforest showers on offer here, (instead, it's more of a Robinson Crusoe style scrub-down)...but it still gets the job done !
Living here and being able to enjoy the peace of nature also means that there are no nearby shops, cafes etc. The nearest supermarket is 3.5 km away.
Heating comprises of 2 wood-burning fireplace stoves.
To get here you will have to make your way to Saint Raphael and then take a local bus, (no 4) to Roquebrune-sur-Argens village. I will collect you from there.

I am easy going and offer you a fun time.... a healthy mixture of work, pleasure and relaxation in a very beautiful location.
During your free time and on your days off you can take a bus, (which costs just €1.50 per journey) and explore the amazing Cote d'Azur coastline which is approximately 12km from away.

Jürgen and David live a different life. For some it may be unusual. The rustic house and the grounds are like in a fairy tale. Jürgen has a lot to tell historically. The hospitality is great. Since the worlds best workawayers title was already taken I could only aim for the second or worse:relaxed: I realized a compost toilet out of recycled material in the garden and i have to say i really enjoyed the project it was sometimes challenging but really rewarding. Nick is a highly talented guitar player and sportsman.
We had a great time when he stayed with us and he was always willing to help out, regardless of what the job involved.
He is not afraid of hard physical work and is great when it comes to socialising.

David and Jurgen were my first workaway hosts and I couldn't imagine a better experience, they always made sure I had everything I needed and allowed me plenty of time to explore the surrounding area.
