Rachel has been a blessing in disguise. We could not be more amazed and thankful for her than we already are. Rachel loved spending time outside every chance she could. If there was not something that needed to be done you could find her walking around the farm with her camera in her hand or sitting beside a tree reading, or even sitting on the swing just enjoying the beauty of mother nature. Even though Rachel was from the big city or I guess I should say the Big Apple (New York) she seemed right at home here on the farm. She is not afraid to get right down into the dirt and dig with her own hands. She is a MUST for any host especially anyone looking for an au pair as she has such a love for kids and animals alike. It was my first Workaway experience, and I have no words to describe it! Everything was amazing from the moment I arrived. Mary and Troy picked me up at the airport, and I knew right then that I was about to have one of the best experiences of my life.

The house is amazing, and each Workawayer had their own room. I can honestly say I was never hungry; Mary made sure I had everything I needed. There was always food available, and I never had to ask for anything. Mary cooked a variety of delicious dishes, and I'll definitely miss her biscuits and gravy!

If he ever decides to stop being a pilot he would definitely make a great farmer.
Guillerme was with us for a little over a month and it was truly not long enough. Guillerme became a very close friend and like a brother to Shawn and a son to Troy and Mary. Nonetheless, they picked me up from the airport on time and even drove me back to the airport to pick my luggage up when it arrived in the next flight. They live in a beautiful and I was even able to spot some deer, fireflies, raccoons and many rabbits on my jogs around their property.
They were very accommodating of my dietary needs as I’m lactose intolerant and Mary had no issues with me taking out a portion of my share before she put any dairy products in. She is a great cook and I loved eating all the fresh vegetables we had on the farm. I’ll miss the fried okra and green tomatoes! We had access to food in the kitchen 24/7 so I was very well fed.
Work on the farm is diverse which is a big plus as it keeps it interesting, in addition to taking care of the animals, we planted trees, cleaned the chicken coop, took care of the plants in the greenhouse and canned what we harvested. As I was here during the summer, most of the work was done in the morning when the weather is cooler so the rest of the day is more chill. They have AC turned on in their house 24/7 which was helpful. Their animals are all very friendly and sociable especially their goats which I will miss feeding, Mary and Troy bring every guest to a little old Route 66 museum which was a fun experience - something I wouldn’t have known existed if not for them.

My four weeks with Troy, Shawn, and Mary were a once-in-a-lifetime, unforgettable experience. Despite this, they warmly welcomed me and taught me everything I needed to know about handling vegetables and animals with
… read more great care. I would like to highlight a few moments from this wonderful time.
(1) When I arrived at Springfield Airport, it was already past 2 a.m. due to repeated delays by American Airlines. I had rented a car, so I could have gone to their house alone, but they warmly welcomed me at the airport. In fact, I was a bit anxious about driving in a new place without their guidance, so it was really helpful.
(2) Access to meals and drinks, including alcohol and juice, 24 hours a day. Mary is a natural chef and provided traditional Southern American cuisine. In addition, they took me to Walmart and told me they would buy anything I wanted. When I told them I liked salads, they perfectly mixed vegetables from the field with those bought at the supermarket.
(3) Wonderful living environment and bedroom. I was given the entire first floor of the residence (how wonderful!). Everything was kept clean, and it was perfect for my afternoon naps!
(4) Whenever I did something on the farm, they always worked with me. They welcomed us not as mere laborers, but as members of the family. Feeding animals, watering vegetables, planting fruit trees, cleaning chicken coops, weeding the garden, etc., there was not a single task I did alone.
(5) Truly wonderful cultural exchange. Only those who have actually worked on the farm can hear the exciting stories of their family! Troy’s stories as a retired U.S. Army veteran were truly educational and gave me a sense of the depth of his life experience. His jokes always filled the dining table with laughter (I hope to be able to joke like that someday!).
(6) As for farm management, they had a perfect strategy! Most of the work was done before 10 or 11 a.m. before the temperature got high. Everyone shared the necessary tasks and worked efficiently.
In short, these are some of the highlights of my experience, but my days were filled with wonderful events that cannot be contained in this text. Thank you so much for welcoming me!Laissé par l'hôte pour le workawayer (Sei)

Kate was a very friendly and a hard working volunteer. Any project or task that needed to be done she was happy to help and wouldn't stop unless the job was done or she was asked to stop (usually do to heat and too much work which could easily be completed at a cooler time or another day). Kate explained to us as soon as she arrived that her son
… read more did not speak any English and that she did not speak much English. Kate understands English better than she is able to speak and it is more that she is trying to find the right words to use. Kate never complained about anything and always had a smile on her face.
Her son Yaroslav is a very handsome and energetic boy. One concern we had with them coming was due to his young age and the possibility of him getting hurt around the farm and if there would be enough to keep him from getting bored since we do not have young children and we do not have any kids toys to play with. It was difficult to communicate with Yaroslav do to us not speaking Russian and him not speaking English so we had to constantly ask Kate to translate what we said or ask her what he said. Since Yaroslav is a very energetic and curious young boy he would regularly pick up tools or other items and use them on things that he shouldn't have. After the first week we had to tell Kate that he must be with her at all times for his safety and that of our animals. We regularly had to remind Kate that he was not to be on the farm without her as well as continually remind her about the rules on the farm for her son (don't throw rocks at the baby ducks, don't chase the animals, don't let the dogs into the bedroom, etc.) --redacted text --
Future hosts should know Overall you could not ask for a harder and more determined volunteer than Kate. Yaroslav would be great with other kids his age that he can play with while tasks are being completed. Yaroslav and Kate are accustomed to 3 large hot meals a day and Yaroslav will eat just as much as any grown adult. Yaroslav is not a bad kid but he is a kid and just like any kid he likes to inquire about new things with or without an adult nearby. Kate did not seem to be interested in cultural exchange as much as we would have like. She never asked any questions about us or our family or our way of life and would only share about her and her family and her way of life when asked and lacking a lot of detail. An adult really needs to watch Yaroslav at all times. You will be taking in two house guests that eat 3 large hot meals a day and receiving help from only 1. When Yaroslav gets older and when he is able to speak and understand English I feel he will be a great volunteer as well but this will be a few years down the road.

Alex also said she wants to give
… read more us bad feedback so that no one else can come her except her lol We also thought about giving her a bad review so she wouldn't go anywhere else but here. Well Alex always has a place and a home here no matter who is here we will always make room for her. We are also excited to have her back in a few short months for kidding season and hopefully more often. As well as excited to visit her in Germany soon. Now to get down to the more finer details. Alex is very intelligent, very witty, extremely motivated, and super caring of animals and others, and one of the hardest workers I have met and she can put a lot of men to shame. Alex will take what you say and do her best to make it perfect. You can tell Alex something one time and she will not forget it. She worked with our goats and has successful experience with milking goats, trimming goat hoofs, she also has worked with our horses and donkeys where she groomed them and learned how to pick their feet. Alex has never worked with putting in electrical outlets but she knew what I needed before I turned around to ask her to hand it to me. Alex helped us repair and relocate a wooden fence behind our barn. Alex has driven our side by sides, she has driven the tractor, she has mucked stalls, and so much more. Alex is a very special person that anyone would be lucky to have. She is not a fan of ticks so make sure you have some sort of tick repellent or lots of free range chickens.

After having spent 2 weeks in the family, one of the thing I want to say is if you have the opportunity to travel near Miller, MO, just stop by their farm, it is worth, you will never regret it.
Worth because meeting this family was amazing. This was my first experience as a workaway, I did not know where I was going. My goal was to practice

Choosing a family on the website for both parties is not an easy job, either you find a good place or not, in my case I won … Mary, Troy and Shawn are goldened people with a great heart. With their warm welcome at the airport and then at home, they immediately made me feel like I was at home and part of their family
Mary is full of energy with very rare moments «no peps in her steps», she is a very good housewife and cook, her house is more than clean and the house always smells good. She (the three of them in fact) made me feel very comfortable from the beginning of this adventure. She always wants to have people happy around her. we had a few laughs that made us feel good
Troy, very peaceful and discreet, he made me laugh lots of time also, I loved his sense of humor, it was fun. He is a thoughtful man and I was hung on his lips when he told his stories...
Shawn, a fan of animals he has an incredible feeling with them and they give him back, you can see he loves his life surrounding by his goats, donkeys, horses, chicken ducks and the dogs . He investigated a lot about how to live in a farm and how to look after animals, he clearly knows his job. I learned a lot and I want to thank him.
The daily work was done in good humor and serenity. I learned how to mow the grass, milk the goat, build a fence clean the barn, tame all these animals , pick up tomatoes and above all, I had the pleasure to share the Family life during 2 weeks. if I could stay a bit longer I would have done it.Vous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.

Martine was a wonderful workawayer. She exceeded our expectations in every way. Martine was always ready to work even when we weren't. We had a tremendous amount of fun times together and she never stopped making us smile and laugh. Martine took direction extremely well and made sure the task at hand was not only completed but completed to

Martine and her friends and family are welcome here anytime for a holiday or as a workawayer. You will not be disappointed in how hard she works, how kind and caring she is, as well as her energy level. Daisy and Petunia will greatly miss their new best friend and they look forward to seeing her again.

Jessy was our first workaway and we couldn't have been more pleased. He was like one of the family while he was here and we are sad that he is no longer here. He is very courteous and respectful. Jessy is not afraid of hard work or the more delicate jobs like gardening. Jessy researched, planned, and help plant our 4 large gardens, he helped do

Jessy has a vast knowledge of many things including current and past world events. Jessy is a very well read person and loves to read a good book or listen to audio books on his phone. If we ever needed anything done he was right there ready and willing. If he didn't know how to do something he was very interested in learning how and why things are done. During his time here his first few hours arriving on the farm he got to see and help with our first of 9 baby goats being born on the farm. Kidding season for the goats was a first time for us and him. Jessy helped put up some fences to divide our male goat yard and make a yard for out mommas and their new babies to play in. If you have a guitar make sure you dust it off because he loves to play. Jessy is welcome back here on our farm any time. We recommend Jessy for any host and we know you will see him as a part of your family like he was ours.

My 5 week stay with this family was wonderful. They are a friendly, accommodating and very hard-working bunch. Mary will treat you like family and is an excellent host. Troy is always laid back and friendly, and will never fail to have a joke to tell you. Shawn really cares about the farm and the animals, and he is brimming with knowledge about
… read more how to take care of them. All of the animals on the farm are friendly and awesome, particularly my favorite, Whiskey the horse! I had the opportunity to experience the kidding season and saw 9 new baby goats be born. I got to help the family with the extensive gardens, and caring for the property and the animals. There was all sorts of interesting work to do and things to learn, and every day was something different. The farm is in a peaceful and beautiful countryside and you can take walks in the back area of the farm where there is a short trail through a nice wooded area. My first workaway experience and I couldn't have asked for better!Vous pouvez seulement contacter les workawayers avec une adhésion active.
