***NOW ACCEPTING APPLICANTS FOR MINIMUM 1 MONTH STAYS FOR JUNE, JULY & AUGUST***

Hi! We are a family of 3 living off grid near Salt Spring Island on our 65ft wooden boat. My partner and I have a 1 year old son and a 3 year old golden retriever named Honey. After backpacking and being workawayers ourselves, we are now new parents and new to boat life! Up until the birth of our son, we’ve spent the last 3 years living in our converted sprinter style van on Salt Spring Island. We love it here, the nature, the community, the fresh produce! And now we’ve started a brand new adventure on a boat. Wood boats require a lot of upkeep, and both the baby and dog also need quite a bit of our time, so we’d love your help with all of it while you get to experience this beautiful place we get to call home. We love adventures, eat well and care about a clean and orderly space for all to enjoy. My partner Landon has spent the majority of his career as a heavy equipment operator but is currently working as a carpenter while pursuing videography. He loves climbing, snowboarding and high lining when he gets some spare time. I have spent a lot of my time on Salt Spring as a fine dining server, but I am now a stay at home Mom. I love to bake, sing, cook, hike, swim and relax!

There is so much to love about Salt Spring Island. It’s beautiful nature for start. If you’re an outdoor person, this place is for you. You will get to experience a small community with a passion for sustainable farming practices. You will also get to see how we live off grid on our boat while managing a dog and baby. It’s a very different way of life! I call it boatsteading! If you have an open mind for learning, you can get alot from this experience. Many things I learned from my workaway experience have carried forward to my way of life now as a Mother and the way I choose to live today.

What we are looking for is a variety of skills, but mostly attention to detail and self motivated individuals. Some tasks include caring for our son, help with household tasks, dishes, cooking, sweeping, vacuuming, cleaning, keeping up with pet hair, and general boat maintenance such as scrubbing the deck, helping us gather water, fuel, groceries, manage recycling and garbage. Animal care such as feeding, watering, playing with our dog, taking her on kayak trips, providing her with love and attention. But we are looking for someone who is willing to learn and try new things, and pride in doing good work on projects! You must be okay with hard work outdoors, small children and dogs!

You will have your own bedroom in the forward cabin that has a toilet, sink, and closet space. It’s my favourite cabin in the whole boat. Imagine being rocked gently by the ocean as you drift off to sleep each night. NOTE* There is 1 shower & due to our off-grid limited water, showering will be limited. Feel free to dip in the ocean at any time if that suits your fancy. There are also showers available for a few in town. We have limited internet available upon request and no TV out on the boat. 3 meals a day will be provided. Snacks and extras are your responsibility, but you will have access to our shared kitchen space, cupboards, and fridge at all times. At this time we cannot accommodate vegan diets. *IMPORTANT* We are not moored at a marina, we are about a 15-minute beautiful scenic kayak ride from town. You will have access to a kayak as your own means of transportation. We do have a commuter motorboat for emergencies and our own personal use. We always go into town with it each Friday so you are welcome to tag along and make use of the space to acquire groceries or whatever you may need.

On your time off there is much to do! Cozy up and read a book with the sounds of the sea right out your window. Go for a kayak to any of the multiple beautiful beaches surrounding us. Meditate or do yoga on the bow. Head into town for some delicious organic food and treats or take a bus and head to a lake or hike for the day. There are plenty of options!
