Description
Hi there,
We are Clare and Russ, two Brits who have been living in Portugal for the last 30 years. We are looking for help around the home - cleaning, gardening, dog walking and general basic DIY.
We would be able to accommodate you in our family home where you could treat it as your own. We love cooking, baking, bread making and anything else to do with food and will happily provide meals at the weekend when we are not working. We both love music and have a large record collection. We also enjoy reading and have hundreds of books you'd be most welcome to borrow. Our home is large, comfy and welcoming with a pretty courtyard which comes into its own during spring and summer.
Our dog, Maeve, is easy to handle, but pretty needy. She's a rescue dog, still quite young and the sweetest thing. We would definitely need help walking her and looking after her while we are away (which often happens at weekends during the late spring and summer).
Our house is a restored farmhouse traditional to the area and you would have your own double bedroom (located in a tiny annexe in our courtyard) but the family bathroom is shared. It's located 15 minutes drive from Guimarães, a small historic town in Northern Portugal.
The area where we live has some beautiful countryside perfect for walking, hiking and there are lakes not far away for swimming in the summer.

We are fully integrated members of the village community and obviously speak fluent Portuguese. However, English is our first language at home.
Having lived here for so many years we know many places of interest to visit and would happily share this information with anyone staying with us.

Hébergement
As mentioned before you will have your own double bedroom (in our annexe) with use of a shared bathroom. Workawayers would be able to use the kitchen and living room as their own. The house has recently been installed with 5G wifi so there should be no problems with internet access.
We are non-meat eaters. We aren't around much during the week especially in the evenings so you would have to cook for yourselves during the week. However at weekends we enjoy cooking and baking and will happily share meals.

There is plenty to do and see around the area. We are as mentioned not far from Guimaraes and Braga, both historic towns and Porto is easy and cheap to get to by bus or train. There is regular public transport from a nearby village but this would involve a 25 minute walk to the nearest bus stop. We are always going in and out of Guimaraes so lifts are readily available during the day.

I spent my workaway helping around the house, walking the lovely Maeve and cooking.
Clare and Russ were amazing hosts and welcomed me into their home so warmly as well as helping me to explore the local area.
I thoroughly enjoyed this workaway - it was perfect!
Clare & Russ were excellent hosts who were very kind, welcoming and respecful.
They treated me like a family member and cared about me.
We talked a lot about a variety of topics and we shared a lots of laughs.
