Description
I am a reliable, responsible, honest and physically fit lady from Riga wishing to help in a guest-house or on a farm in rural setting or in a small town. I prefer healthy and green life- style as far as possible. I like farming and housekeeping, being close to nature, waking up early, working independently and carefully while living in a friendly family or community as a member of this family or group . I work as a translator for a Family Court (legal documents from/into Latvian English, Russian). I look forward to being a great help to my smart kind and friendly hosts. I would highly appreciate quality time together and communication enriching all of us.

I prefer gardening, working outdoors, living in a family or in a small community as since the childhood I have worked outdoors - in summer at our family garden, on farm fields, later at archaeologists’ campuses and on a nice Norwegian farm growing tomatoes. I love physical work outdoors but also like work in kitchen, especially peeling potatoes and washing up. I also like cooking, making salads, deserts, soups and stews. Every year I visit my friends who have their farms and help them with gardening, picking fruits and berries, vegetables, planting, weeding, pruning etc. I just love outdoor activities with friends in the sun and fresh air. I am afraid of remaining (especially sleeping) in cold and humid place. I am an introvert still very sociable person highly appreciating group activities.
Background: Children Music School (playing piano 7 years), College for Applied Arts (clothing designer) and College University (Translation).
Before Covid19 came I enjoyed Workaway in Slovenia (visited the same family)
twice and in Austria once. My best - brilliant and unforgettable Workaway, was summer of 2023 in friendly, energetic, smart and hardworking extended family in Franconia. In November I did my last Workaway so far in Andalusia.

One of the best absolutely possible workaways in my experience

He is an experienced host with passion for his… read more land, and native Villastrada, the place he was born where he knows everybody and everybody knows him, which is so unique. We listened to Divina Comedia in Italian with Maurizio’s explanations. This was absolutely the most musical and singing Workaway team in my experience, starting with O sole mio, continuing with Strangers in the night and then again with the Lion sleeps tonight. We met and spent quality time with Maurizio’s kind family and friends also. I am so thankful to Maurizio for this stunningly beautiful October in Umbria!
Culture. During our family lunches and dinners we supplemented our knowledge of Italian by ‘scarpetto, bosco, porchini, ovoli, pecorino’ and many more of which I have never heard before. This was really excellent culture exchange where all our question got substantial and explicit answers. With Maurizio and other workawayer Mitchel I always felt as a warm, friendly, and close family. It was so sweet, kind and touching to be always served with so special Italian food, vines, cheeses, pastas, fresh and cooked mushrooms, soups. When in Villastrada please never ever put on the same plate pasta with béchamel sauce AND salads containing vinegar 😉.
Traditional house was owned by his grandfather already, it is in tranquil peaceful nature next to the sunflower and crop fields. In mornings after rain you can feel the scent of the laurel hedge hung in the air around the house. A small Conad shop was just around the corner. My space on the 2-nd floor was about 60-70 m2, and huge 100m2 terrace offering a spectacular Umbrian view in sunny and rainy days.
We worked in olive groves together in October 2024 and had quite steady schedule – breakfast at 8:00, launch -13:30, dinner – 19.30. The period when you harvest olives for the highest quality oil starts already in the beginning of October. So it is quite short, and this is why you should work complying with nature – you cannot gather olives after rain, so some weekends also were used to work, and we got our days off on the working days instead. Then we visited Castiglione del Lago, Assisi, Perugia, Museo Nationale Etrusco in Chiusi Chianciano Therme, when I felt in love with Etruscan culture, applied arts, pottery, ceramics. We also took a guided tours in several museums in underground Chiusi Chianciano Therme which were sooooo exciting.

Great talent and gift of this hard working family is HOSPITALITY – they just know how to create friendly and pleasant atmosphere around them, cosy interior, landscape and delicious food that all together make their visitors very happy and satisfied. The young generation is working along with their parents and even being very busy they maintain tradition of having lunch all together. It was so inspiring to see them all working as an extremely productive and well managed team being able to care and look after children, simultaneously to perform work in the garden, kitchen, guest house, restaurant, wine yard, bee camion and in stock-yard. That was great piece of luck for us to be welcomed and taken in this united and hearty family in their cosy house.

We had in our nice tidy and clean room all the necessary – towels, bed lining, soap, an oil heater for some cold April nights and even refrigerator that we also used during our two weeks long stay in Tomaj.

Our work was very various and never monotonous as the activities changed – cutting salads and cabbages, picking stones, planting zucchini, bottling vine, packing salami, sorting and washing greens, planting pumpkins, preparing frames for bee-hives. There is established rhythm of life here that we found very pleasant: breakfast at 7:00 AM, work 8:00-12:00 AM, family lunch at 12:00, and then one more hour of work after 13:00 AM. As we really enjoyed work in the garden and also together with other family members it was a pleasure for us. Primorz showed as what and how we should do and was very tolerant and patient teaching, answering our questions and explaining us the right procedure; so did Izidor, Irena, Anya and Tea.

We learned lot of new recipes, enjoyed gorgeous nature of Karst, went to Dutovlje, Sežana, and Šmarje, Koper, Piran and Bled. Tea, Irena, Primorz and his friend brought as to Sežana, Dutovlje train station and Koper when we went to see the beauty of Slovenia. The public transport here are better during working days and you need assistance of local people in order to understand the schedule.

This was our first Workaway experience and we definitely are very, very thankful to this family for the warm welcome, unforgettable time with them and their work contributed in maintenance of such a beautiful place.
