Hello fellow Workawayers and hosts!

I am a 26 year old half English, half French man who is extremely interested in learning more skills relating to gardening and handyman tasks and connecting with more people. I am working as a computer programmer for 3 years now, and am now taking a break to volunteer and learn about other cultures and skills.

I grew up in the outskirts of Paris near St-Germain-en-Laye, did 1 year in boarding school in England, finished my school in Geneva, and now live and work near Nice, France. I am therefore used to moving around adapting to different cultures and conditions.

As well as traveling and meeting new people, I am interested in learning more about Japan, the culture, religion, food, language and people. I am a real Japanese beginner but I am committed to working hard at improving and would love to learn from you.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I have 3 years of professional experience working as a programmer. I would be happy to help you with any computer issues you are facing or basic website development tasks you need doing.

I worked a summer in a popular restaurant near my town. I ran plates, prepared cocktails and drinks, and tended tables. It involved a lot of multi-tasking and doing whatever job needed doing in the moment. Here I learned to be flexible and part of a team.

I have experience living with other families for extended time periods. I lived with a family for 1 year in Oxford where I cooked family meals, kept common space clean and tidy, and helped out with food shops and being considerate in general. I feel this experience has taught me how to be a good guest and to adapt to the lifestyle of the host. I also grew up in international schools, so I feel most comfortable with new cultures; and coming from a family with 2 other siblings, I am used to community life.

I have experience gardening from my balcony where I grew courgettes, tomatoes and basil. It was the best I could do with no garden in the city! I am interested in practicing more gardening and outdoor maintenance skills such as weeding, trimming, mowing for example. I have experience with mowing, weeding, and cutting back hedges as these are jobs that I did to help my family home growing up. I am physically fit and can work outside no matter the weather.

I also have experience pet sitting dogs for neighbors for up to 1 month at a time. I walked them (depending on their age and health), fed and of course cuddled them making sure that our home was somewhere they felt safe and happy about. I also made sure to keep the owner informed about their happy dog to give them peace of mind.

I have very basic knowledge in woodworking as I have helped my grandpa make wooden frames for paintings in his workshop. I am very interested in deepening this knowledge if the opportunity arises.

I am an avid hiker and outdoors person. I love spending time in the woods and mountains, and camping on multi-day hikes.
I love board-games in the evening. I play chess and wingspan.
I also love to draw landscapes, trees, and animals in pencil and pen and ink.
I am adopting a minimalist mindset and pride myself on packing light and owning few possessions.
I love reading maps of physical landscapes and occasionally make my own on my computer.

Lastly I never turn down a cold plunge in a lake, river or sea.
