Description

Hey there, I'm Toby—a curious soul who decided to take a detour from the fast-paced world of the automotive industry.
In 2019, I embarked on my first incredible journey along America's west coast, from the rugged landscapes of Alaska to the sunny shores of California. Along the way, I engaged in enriching Workaway experiences in Canada, creating lasting memories.
Having turned 30 lately, I decided to hit pause on my career as an engineer/project lead, unsure if I'll ever find my way back. So I continued my adventure starting in the Yukon as helper on a building construction site for part of the winter. After a short time spend on BC's Sunshine Coast I volunteered the summer months for an orca sanctuary on a remote island close to northern Vancouver Island.

Right now, I’m in New Zealand, continuing the journey. I worked on restoring a wooden boat, cought the boat fever and bought a small sailboat to live on. I am now spending the summer kayaking as a guide in the Bay of Islands. Between learning to sail, exploring the coastline, and working outdoors every day, I’ve found a rhythm that feels right.

I thrive on openness, structured thinking, intellect, and a relentless work ethic. Nature is my playground, and photography is my passion. With developed skills in carpentry, construction, yard work, nature conservation and maintenance jobs even in remote marine or wintery conditions I'm always ready to tackle new challenges and embrace the unknown.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Although I have studied Industrial Engineering in Germany - and by that usually doing my work on paper or on the computer - I have always had a pleasure to work with my hands and build things.

In my life I gained experience in various trades from carpentry, through maintenance and forestry to cooking and animal care.

I'm comfortable doing strenenous work in harsh conditions and I can use and move trucks, boats and heavy machines.

I also have an eye for detail and put reasonable effort in making things look nice.

As a photographer I can help with content creation, photo editing and other digital stuff.

Working on a huge boat restoration project has recently opened up boat life to me and I bought a sailboat which I am now dedicated to maintain and sail whilst working as a full time kayak guide in the Bay of Islands. ⛵️
