Description
Hello, I'm Toby from the UK :) The short story of me is I'm a well travelled chap who brings a strong work ethic, a friendly personality, loads of volunteering experience, and an ongoing interest in all things/people/places new!
The longer story is that I've been travelling and working around the world for 15 years on and off. This has led to a wide range of experiences ranging from milking goats in California, to babysitting 4 year old triplets in Tasmania, to leading snowmobile tours in northern Canada in -40 degrees, to assisting on a safari ranch in +40 in northern Australia. Most recently I have been working at a British science research station in Antarctica, penguins and all! I've been described as a down-to-earth guy, with a good sense of humour and a willingness to led a hand wherever it is needed. Some of my interests include biology and the natural world, a good book, roadtrips, sports (especially cricket & skiing), and I just love dogs! I eat most things, don't smoke, and don't have any particular needs other than a decent place to sleep and a good feed. I can turn my hand to most things and I have experience in lots of areas such as DIY, gardening, farmwork, large vehicle operation, childcare, animal care and cooking, to name but a few. Jack of all trades, master of none (yet!)
I'm a hard worker and as such I'm looking for hosts who are interested in a fair exchange in both directions, and are open about their desires and expectations up front. Volunteering has given me some of the best times of my life, and the majority of my previous hosts have been great, but there are a few bad apples out there who are simply looking for cheap labour and have no interest in a genuine exchange. So let's avoid that! I hope to learn something at each place I stay, whether that's a practical skill, or a philosophy, or a recipe. Also I prefer if there are at least two of you, as I have found in the past it can be quite intense living alone with a single host in remote places.
Most of my previous volunteering has been through Helpx, but their host list is limited in many places hence I have signed up to Workaway to find some new adventures. If you would like to see feedback from previous hosts please let me know and I can provide that. Any other questions just ask! Thanks for reading :)

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
I think I have given a good idea in the profile section already, but here's a list of some of the jobs/skills/volunteering things I've done over the years to give you an idea:
- tractor driving - cooking - babysitting - logging (chainsaw work) - tour guiding - carpentry - decorating - building maintainence - chauffeuring - sheep herding - bar tending - gardening - feeding pigs - using power tools - cleaning hotel rooms - fixing domestic appliances (trying) - basic IT assistance - refueling airplanes - waste management - marquee construction - wildlife surveys - farm sitting -
The best job I had was driving snowmobiles in Canada, the worst was digging out a (malfunctioning) human composting toilet - I have a variety of skills and I don't mind getting my hands dirty. A long time ago I did a university degree in biology too so that's my educational background.
