Hi, I’m Tes!

I’m from sunny Wales, and currently on a mission to see a little more of the world! After years of saying I’d travel more “one day”, I’ve finally decided to stop talking about it and actually do it! I’m hoping to explore the USA and Canada before eventually making my way to Australia.

I've recently completed my first Workaway at a beautiful Buddhist retreat centre in the Scottish Highlands, where I spent a month helping with outdoor maintenance, practical tasks and preparing the centre for its winter closure. Living and working as part of a small community was a wonderful experience, and it's made me even more excited to see where Workaway takes me next.

Although I’m relatively new to Workaway, I’m certainly no stranger to volunteering. I’ve previously spent time at an animal sanctuary in New Zealand and at a pig sanctuary in Ireland — my idea of a holiday probably involves more mud than most!

Before setting off on my travels, I spent several years working in events, community engagement and visitor experience, so I’m used to working with people from all walks of life, thinking on my feet and staying cheerful when things don’t quite go to plan.

For me, the biggest draw of travelling isn’t just seeing new places — it’s getting to experience everyday life in them. I’d much rather come home with stories about the people I’ve met, the things I’ve learned and the experiences I’ve shared than a checklist of tourist attractions.

I’m naturally curious, hardworking, happy to get stuck in, and always up for learning something new. If I leave with a few new skills, some good friends and a phone full of animal photos, I’ll consider that a successful trip!

I have a keen interest in environmental conservation and would love to gain more practical experience in this area.

Skills I have acquired from previous work experience include:
- Caring for animals
- Supporting people with learning disabilities
- Gardening
- Building fences, sheds, animal shelters etc.
- Photoshop & video editing
- Promoting projects on social media
- Training volunteers in most of the above

I'd like to think that my greatest ability is when after a long, hard-working day; and knowing that you'll be doing the same thing again all week, I'll still have a smile on my face and have a laugh with everyone.
