Description
Photographer, videomaker, artist from Czech Republic. Dreamer, animals-mountains-ocean lover! I enjoy sunrises in the mountains, shared laughs over a board game or a common art project. I prefer to connect with people through sports, art or music and sense of humour (beeing sarcastic, muhehe). I don't mind working with my hands and getting dirty.

I am bit of a unicorn..It makes me feel good when people are kind to each other, just like that. When despite all our of differences we can still take good care of each other. I find multi-language environment fun and enriching. Unplanned adventures and beautiful random meetings make me feel alive - enriched by a mountain view, ocean horizons or starry sky above and shared smiles even better! Trying to look for beauty and meaning in simple moments.

Down to Earth info:
I am 34 years old, currently living in a community of 11 people and two kids in Prague, working in the Prague planetarium for past eight years - mainly video making (social media), planetarium show production... apart from that I freelance as a photographer from time to time, mainly for different voluntary projects, taking part in Erasmus+ trainings etc. (I am a freak into slow-motion moody videos).

Since childhood I have spent my free time around horses (two years ago I discovered horse archery which quickly became my favourite activity :)), I like to take on new challanges, in the past years I took part in differenct courses such as mindfullness, impro-theater lessons, standard and latin dances classes, I sometimes join balfolk sessions or ice-hockey friendly matches...

I have a bachelor degree in animal care and a master degree in Oceanography (I studied in Canary Islands, place I love to return to). I haven´t worked in either of the fields though. There are different areas I somehow touched in my life, but I am not active in anymore (e.g.diving).

I enjoy art projects and working with wood, would love to be useful in this way.

It’s been a while since we left this beautiful place, we spent a month and a half with Andrew and Conny during the beginning of autumn 2015. We were leaving with very mixed feelings and that’s why it took us so long to write a feedback. We almost decided to let it go, but then, it makes this whole webpage a bit useless if nobody leaves feedbacks,… read more so we just decided to be honest. The place is very nice and you can find a lot of artistic inspiration within the lodge and the farm, it has a beautiful view to the Drakensberg and if you like animals, there are always few of them around. Nevertheless there were few things which made our stay a bit bitter. First and most important was the number of hours we had to work. We didn’t agree on this exactly in advance (which was a mistake). When we asked about the working hours and work details via email, we were told that it can vary a lot, dependable on what needs to be done etc. (there was no number of hours on the hosts profile and no feedbacks left yet) and that there are no specific working hours. When we came the first night, we got a paper with printed out rules, including a daily schedule with 8 hours of work per day, 5 days a week (that seemed pretty specific to us!). The work in general was interesting, sometimes hard. Andrew and Conny are very bussy people, so we usually spent most of the time on our own in the wooden workshop (which was dusty and very hot during the sunny days!). We were mostly working in the workshop, then helping in the garden, sometimes with other small tasks as serving the dinner in the lodge etc., and Aika was also helping out with the horses and took guests out for rides around the farm if needed. During the working days we were getting tired and we had hardly any time free as we worked from 7.30am to 5pm (with a tea break and lunch break) and at 7pm we had to be already at the dinner with guests. (The dinners were very ‘official’, but large and delicious!). During your free days you can just relax on the farm, but it’s very difficult to get somewhere else if you don’t have your own car. As we had experience with horse riding we could take the horses out for a while during our days off, which we appreciated a lot. We also welcomed a stay of two more volunteers who came a couple of weeks after us, so we had some company during the work. Another thing which now looking backwards we find totally unbalanced is the fact that we had to pay for our own drinks (if we wanted to drink something else than tea, coffee or the tap water which was coming out brownish most of the time), which we learned only after our arrival. As the working hours were quite large, at the beginning we were often hungry and sometimes we were disappointed at the amount of food we got during the lunch break from the lodge workers - sometimes we found it difficult to communicate with them. When we had any problems like these Andrew and especially Conny seemed keen to solve them, but sometimes it created uncomfortable moments for us. When we got tired of doing the same work after several days, they were willing to give us other tasks, but in our opinion 8 hours is just too much for volunteering. We chose this place because it looked like a nice place with opportunities to learn new things and we liked the description on the profile about the balance between the volunteers and the host, nevertheless this stay didn’t seem balanced to us. We are hardworking and were looking for a place to fit in as a part of a family, but we felt more like unpaid workers instead. When we were leaving this place, I told Andrew that it would be only fair to put the working schedule and the rules (paying drinks etc.) on their workaway profile or at least inform the volunteers in advanced. We also asked Andrew for a letter of recommendation (as their profile offers) and he said it would be a pleasure for him to write it, as he was 100% satisfied with our job. After our stay I wrote him a couple of e-mails, via workaway and his normal e-mail. Not only didn’t we receive our recommendation letters (or workaway feedback) we didn’t receive any answer at all. In spite of all what was mentioned above and the fact that Andrew didn’t keep up to his word we are sorry not to be able to rate this host better than neutral. We believe that you can still enjoy your stay in this beautiful remote place if you agree properly on the conditions in advance and you know what to expect.

Michelle and Simon are very nice hardworking people. Together with their girls and other three volunteers they made me feel very welcome since the moment I have arrived. The very first time we sat around the table together to have a dinner I felt like I was visiting good old friends :). I spent only about 2 weeks with them (in August), but I… read more really enjoyed my stay. My job was mainly taking care of the animals including feeding the horses (3 times a day), feeding the dogs, milking the goat twice a day, mucking out the donkey's/pony's place couple of times, ridding the horses (yeeey :)), but also things related to that as collecting hay, peeling corn... Or just collecting plums (for the 'Rakija'), painting the donkey's cart, painting the gate, cooking meals few times (just because I wanted to, not a rule ;)) or just playing with the puppies!! I think if the presence of animals makes you happy, you will love this place, because they are almost everywhere. Therefore I definitely wouldn't recommend you coming if you don't like animals and/or children. The little girls (Axie and Dani), if they are around, they will want to help you with everything, sometimes may be getting in your way a bit, so you need to be patient ;). But otherwise they are really nice, interested in everything and accepting volunteers as a part of the family nearly immediately which I found very sweet. (They don't speak English that much yet, therefore it is a plus for you, if you speak Bulgarian or other Slavic language!! If you don't, you will learn basic words quickly anyway :))
Generally people in the village are very kind and they may try to speak to you, eventhough nearly no one speaks English there. The nice lady from next door kept giving us fresh fruits and vegetable over the fence and once the neighbours even invited us (the volunteers) for the evening and tried to somehow communicate with us (Bulgarian, Russian, bit of English), it was funny.
Also Simon and Michelle will try to make you enjoy your stay - you will usually have a choice which work you prefer to do and have enough free time as well. Michelle doesn't like to order people "do this now, that later..", but sometimes certain things need to be done so be sure you keep asking her often enough if there is something you can do ;) or suggest yourself what you would like to do, they are open to new ideas as well! (Btw. I think Michelle would very much appreciate a volunteer with good ridding skills ;).. but it is not necessary). And be prepared for Simon's sense of humour, he is joking around all the time... :-)
To sum it up I am really happy I decided to come to Bulgaria - it was my very first workaway experience and it turned out very well. I tried things I have never done before - like milking the goat, ridding a doneky's cart, going down the well... The only negative thing for me during my stay (but positive for a smoker :)) was the smoking since I hate the cigarette smoke, but again Simon and Michelle tried to be very conciderate when I was around..
I appriciated very much the company of other volunteers as well - they were very nice, we had so much fun and I was happy I didn't have to stay only on my own in the other house located on the edge of the village.
Thank you everybody very much once more and I hope I will have the opportunity to visit you again someday in your beatiful countryside :-)!

She took on any duties without complaint even milking of our goat twice a day :-)
