Description

I find travel and exploration to be the ideal way to discover unexpected connections between people, places, and cultures, as well as within oneself. I am motivated by the spontaneous but also enjoy being settled in one place and getting to know an area and its people more intimately. Expecting to visit Estonia for two weeks back in August 2020, I find myself still connected with the Baltic states, having remained, initially as a volunteer, and subsequently as a music and English teacher in Latvia. Music is a major part of my life, and I play a variety of instruments, including the piano, accordion and organ, and I am keen to learn about and participate in the musical tradition of wherever I visit. With a background in linguistics (I studied Latin and Greek) at University, I am equally enthusiastic about learning new languages, currently Latvian. Sharing tales and experiences is something I particularly value, and I greatly enjoy being part of an international community.

I am looking to expand my language contact beyond English and the ancient languages I have studied. I learned French at school and have recently had the opportunity to put it into verbal practice again, which was exciting. I am interested in all languages, their characters and connections, and am currently getting my head around Latvian.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I have experience of working on a wide variety of projects, including teaching (languages and music), gardening/landscaping, renovating buildings and helping around the house with whatever is needed. I value being able to share life experiences with others and thereby broaden my horizons. I also enjoy gardening, hiking, cycling, swimming, listening to and performing music.
