Hello Workaway community!
My name's Remy Trahant, I am a 46 year old musician living in Cambridge, Massachusetts USA.
This is my fifth year in the Workaway community.
In 2021, I experienced my very first two Workaway homestays in Italy.
I stayed for two weeks at Martin & Etain's sustainable farm in a valley near picturesque Gubbio and I helped out during the last grape harvest of the season at Jenn and Massimiliano's winery in Piemonte, picking in the beautiful Langhe.
In 2022, I experienced my third and fourth Workaway homestays, with Jeanette in Isle of Skye taking care of her two Scotties while she was on holiday, and then with Susan near Inverness helping with painting and landscaping in the garden.
I am comfortable and experienced with staying in community living environments, youth hostels, camps. I love the hostel atmosphere.
My work skills are hands-on: I'm a licensed plumber, I don't work in the trade anymore but I can certainly assist in minor plumbing repairs. I've done some farm animal care but I want more experience. I've done grape harvest. A lot of painting. Landscaping, raking. I can assist in building but I don't have the experience to take the lead in those projects.
I especially love dogs and taking care of animals in general.
I've also done hospitality. I worked as a bartender at a hotel jazz club called the Regatta Bar that closed after my last shift there in 2020 because of the pandemic but recently re-opened. I know how to offer friendly service and a wide variety of cocktail recipes.
In my free time I volunteer at an organic farm called Drumlin Farm and I also volunteer at a local food pantry called Food For Free with their home delivery program.
I am also passionate about music, specifically flamenco guitar and learning piano. I travelled to Granada, Spain in 2022 and studied 5 months at Escuela Carmen de las Cuevas in the beginners guitar class. I am returning this year in 2025 for a 6-week program at the school from 10/2/2025-21/3/2025. After which, I would like to leave the Schengen area a bit to conserve a couple weeks for when my mom comes to visit France in May 2025.
I hope to share musical experiences with hosts and other Workawayers. I like to play music in a communal setting.
I am planning to busk at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for the month of August 2025 so I am practicing many songs to cover and would be fun to play with others especially singers!
I am fully vaccinated, I don't smoke, I like simple living and to experience the moment. I avoid technology and rarely use a smartphone.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I speak some Spanish (best), French (basic), and Italian (beginner).
I am a licensed plumber and can do minor plumbing repairs or advise if they are more than minor.
I have some farming experience as far as weeding, planting, harvesting, and I love animals and would love to learn more about caring for them.
I play and teach flamenco guitar for beginners.

I am also open to hosting someone for a short time if they were ever traveling to the Boston area and my mother rents her house there as well on a short-term rental site.
