I'm a German-American with a lifelong passion for travel and exploring.

Through various work experiences I have gained significant skills in communication, teamwork and supporting customers. My education supplemented my abilities in problem-solving and analytical thinking, and my background of travel and living in different countries means I am highly flexible and adaptable to new situations.

--- About Me ---

Born in a bicultural family that loves to travel, I've been bilingual my whole life and had opportunities to travel as long as I can remember. I've lived in Germany, the US, Australia and the UK, and traveled to many countries, particularly in Europe and Asia. Experiencing new places and cultures and seeing more of the world is my greatest passion.

My interests and hobbies include exercising and outdoor activities - I love hiking, trekking and camping, as well as rock climbing, skiing & snowboarding, and weight training, and am always open to try new sports and activities. I studied natural sciences and programming so I love thinking and talking about nerdy topics. At the same time, I'm passionate about music, literature, art and culture and love learning about these things and how they overlap.

Traveling and meeting people from different cultures is my favorite way to expand my view of the world. I'm excited to use Workaway to get the chance to immerse myself in new cultures, hopefully learning some of the language and traditions. Exploring nature and seeing new landscapes and environments is also a big motivation for my travels. I'm looking forward to Workaway experiences where I get to interact with open-minded and friendly people from different backgrounds, learn about and support local cultures, and explore the most interesting and beautiful parts of new countries.

How can I even begin to describe this experience? I spent the winter season of 2025-26 here, working from mid-December until mid-March. I was expecting to have fun, but it was genuinely better than I could have imagined.

Some of the amazing perks of this job:
- free season pass for the entire valley
- all food and accommodation included
- hourly… read more wage
- free use of cars in our free time
- free use of the hostel’s amazing onsens 24/7
- 2 days off a week (sometimes less in peak season, but offset by more time off in other weeks)
- enough free time to go skiing or snowboarding nearly every day

Honestly, I think this is the best deal in Hakuba. Max, our boss, was an absolute legend - an incredibly chill boss who prioritizes his staff’s wellbeing over everything. He learned what food we liked and bought us high-quality ingredients to cook with, and tried to arrange work to give us as much time on the slopes as possible. As long as everything ran smoothly, he was also happy for us to do things as we liked - so among the staff, we could arrange things the way we wanted and for example cover each other’s work if one person wanted to do something one day.

In terms of the work itself, we were four staff members, and although we all pitched in with anything when needed, we were roughly divided into two drivers and two housekeepers. I was a driver, so my main job was driving guests to and from the ski resorts or picking them up from the stations. This usually meant a couple hours of work each early in the morning and in the afternoon. I also helped with cleaning, checking guests in and out, making breakfast, and various other tasks. On top of that, when Max found out I have experience with software and social media, I was able to help set up a new booking system and help with some of the operations and marketing, which was a very cool experience. It’s definitely worth mentioning any special skills you have in case there’s a way to use them.

Hakuba is a paradise for snowsports and having a season pass for the valley plus access to a car is an unbeatable combination. Since the guests were generally all out during the day, we could also head out to the slopes nearly every day. I ski and snowboard and Hakuba is my new favorite place to do those things - the powder days were like nothing I’ve ever experienced.

The hostel itself is very cozy - it was originally a family lodge, with a new building recently added on, so it’s homey but also feels fresh and up to date. Our maximum capacity was about 40 guests, which felt like a good size - big enough that people who wanted to socialize could find others to hang out with, small enough that it still felt personal. I made friends with a lot of the guests, not to mention my amazing colleagues that I miss already.

I could go on about how much fun this whole experience was, but I think these are the most important details. Basically, if you are considering doing a ski season in general, I can’t recommend it enough. And if you get a chance to do it in Hakuba, and especially at this hostel, you should absolutely go for it.
