Hello!

My name is Rachel and I was born and raised in sunny California, but I'm currently a graduate student in Boston! I would describe myself as being very outgoing and bubbly, I love getting to know new people and making fun memories together.

In my free time, I love reading books, cooking new recipes, going on hikes or bike rides, playing tennis, and watching TV with my friends. I've always enjoyed traveling and learning about new cultures and languages. During college, I studied abroad in China after learning three years of Chinese, studied in the Netherlands, and after graduating, I worked at the Thailand-Myanmar border with an NGO before starting my graduate studies back in the US. My mom is Korean so I've grown up eating Korean food and being aware of Korean culture. While I grew up speaking the language, I've forgotten a lot of vocabulary and grammar so I would love to practice with someone (and also my Chinese)! My grandmother passed away a year ago and I've been wanting to go to Korea to connect more with my heritage and learn more about the country my grandmother and mother grew up in.

I'm looking forward to meeting new people, living in a different country, and learning more about the world! :)

I am a native English speaker. I want to improve my Korean speaking and reading skills, especially learning more vocabulary and practicing grammar. I've taken over four years of university-level Chinese classes, but would also like to continue practicing my conversational skills!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I've had a lot of different work experiences: working at non-profits in the US and abroad, serving at a restaurants, babysitting, working at a library, doing research, and teaching English. I would consider myself a very independent person and a natural problem-solver, but someone who also loves working with others in a team! It's important to me to create a positive and fun working environment with others, and I enjoy hanging out with my coworkers outside of work to get to know each other.

Ever since I was little, I've always been naturally curious about the world and I've spent a lot of time traveling through Europe, East Asia and Southeast Asia on my own. I enjoy learning about the history, culture, customs, and food of each place I visit, but also teaching others about my experiences and background.
