Hello! my name is Laney and here’s a little bit about me—

I adore the outdoors and have for much of my life, it led me to some of my greatest passions— rock climbing, swimming & surfing (for fun!), and hiking. I hope to expand this list of interests to mountain biking and bike packing, and try as many new activities as possible.

Though many of my passions revolve around being active outside, I do enjoy cooking and have for my entire life. It is one of my great loves and a driving force in my desire to travel— to learn as much as possible about international cuisine. Along with cooking, I love slacklining, photography (mostly film), yoga, ceramics and reading. I hope to get better at all of those things, as well as learn more about landscaping/gardening.

Self-sufficiency is also a driving force in my passion for travel. I hope that through meeting others and helping them with their tasks, I will learn more about sustainable living, building, and a deeper appreciation for my work and others.

Excited to use workaway again!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

As a former line cook, I learned many skills in the kitchen— knife skills, prep, etc. as well as some basic skills like cleaning (floors, bathroom, windows, organizing, kitchen cleaning, etc.) and communication (directing a team, helping a guest, etc.). My favorite cuisine to make is Indian food, but there isn’t a type of food I’ve met that I haven’t liked.

Growing up I always had pets and am confident taking care of cats/dogs! I have taken care of chickens as well, but it’s been some time since then. I would love to learn more about other furry (or feathered, etc.) friends and how to care for them (livestock, horses, really anything!).

I have some beginner experience with gardening and worked on an olive farm on my last workaway trip pruning trees and helping herd cattle.

I speak fluent English as my native language, and know some
very limited French (though it’s a bit rusty, I’ve found I can still get by).

I am very driven when given a task and love to learn. I have found that I pick things up quickly when it comes to helping out others, especially those who are excited about their projects.
