Hi! I’m Maria, a 23-year-old Portuguese currently taking a gap year to explore new opportunities.
I am deeply passionate about life, people, and meaningful relationships, and I see every experience as a chance to grow, learn, and connect with others. With that in mind I studied Law and later Design, and I now plan to pursue further studies in Psychology, always driven by my interest in understanding human behavior and supporting personal and social development.
I have extensive experience volunteering with children and young people, including working as a camp monitor, youth group leader, and volunteer in schools and hospitals, which has brought me a strong sense of responsibility, empathy, and adaptability.
I also consider myself a Creative and love expressing myself through different forms of art such as writing, ceramics, photography, theatre, dance and design, so I am always involved in some kind of project related to one of these.
Finally, I love being in the nature, travelling, cooking and having deep conversations.
As a Workawayer, I hope to put all these skills and passions into good use while learning more about the world, experiencing new cultures, and, most importantly, connecting with different people.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I have extensive experience volunteering with children and young people, having worked as a summer camp monitor for six years and as a youth group leader for three, while also volunteering in schools and hospitals. Through these experiences, I developed a strong sense of empathy, creative problem-solving skills, and an understanding of teamwork and responsibility, growing especially through contact with children from very different backgrounds. By listening to their stories, supporting them through their challenges, and being someone they could rely on, I learned a great deal about human connection and care.

Alongside this, I am a very creative person who enjoys expressing myself through different forms of art. I love writing and mainly write for myself, although I recently started sharing my work on a dedicated page, and this year I also wrote a children’s book aimed at helping children deal with fear. In addition, I work with ceramics and explore photography and video, fields in which I have learned to embrace imperfection and use it as a source of creative growth. I also love dancing and theatre, and I have coordinated a team of volunteers to create a drama play for a local community. Through my Design degree, I also learned how to use creativity as a tool to build solutions and explored different creative fields.

Addionaly, I love to cook and bake, and to explore new recipes in the kitchen, which is a skill I love to have and develop, as I love to gather people and serve them food to enjoy.

Altogether, these experiences have shaped me into a multifaceted person who is constantly curious and eager to learn, which allows me to adapt easily to new environments while remaining open-minded and engaged.
