Over the past three years, my partner and I have been growing rice while caring for all the tiny lives in the fields. Before agriculture, I spent a year helping an Indigenous experimental elementary school build many natural structures, living in a close-knit community and using local materials such as bamboo, wood, stone, and lime.
I love living close to the land—growing food, learning to make things, and practicing skills to maintain a simple lifestyle. My interests include fermentation (rice koji, temph, sourdough), natural crafts, and reading nature literature. I believe the living world is ourselves.
The entire farming process is more toward meditation, and I like to make it playful. Friends had danced for the rice, and this year my partner and I created a small booklet combining poetry, illustrations, essays, and photography. Part of the inspiration came from meeting farmers from Hong Kong in Echigo-Tsumari, Japan, who shared how they see everyday farming practices as anart performance.
I worked for a year and a half at a Taiwanese-French restaurant in Paris, preparing ingredients and assisting with cooking. To be honest, cooking is not my greatest passion, but I love real food—and as a farmer, I hope I will love it more and more. But I do, especially enjoy baking sourdough bread!
The work I have done the longest is sustainable travel planning—organizing group trips and environmental forums. Before that, I have many long journey in real life; afterward, most of my “travels” happened to be online—surprisingly, it felt a bit like playing a life simulation game.
This October, I will be going to Canada for the first time on a working holiday visa. I need to leave after the rice harvest so I can finish this year’s busy farming season—and this is also my last chance before reaching the age limit. I feel deeply connected to the small town in Taiwan where I have been living and have been reflecting on what I want to experience during a year away. I am still trying to slow down my thoughts and let them flow naturally.
If I happen to be in a city, I would like to join more contact improvisation practices; I find they bring softness and warmth to the heart. I also hope to have CI gathering with my friends in my hometown in the future.
When I was younger, I moved often, but over the years I’ve realized that settling down can bring a lot of creativity and connection. This journey marks a small transition in my life—a way to stay close to the land while gathering new ideas and experiences. I look forward to helping wherever I can, sharing what I have to offer, and bringing new vitality to both my work and my life.Centres d’intérêt
