    Description

We are a family of 4 living on Salt Spring Island . A beautiful Island located in the southern gulf islands of the west coast of Canada! We love our home because of the community, back to the roots living/home steading, local farms and markets, and simplicity that this island offers.

We are collectively Alexia, Steven, Kismet (2yrs), and new baby Leela born August 17th! We have lived on the island for almost 5 years. Steven and I met on the island living in an intentional community setting where we hosted many work awayers from around the world. In the 4 years we lived there we experienced living with probably over 200 people. We loved having the work awayers around to bring in new fresh energy and learn new skills and about many different kinds of people and cultures. That community is no longer and we are now a single unit family raising 2 young children to be confident, nature connected, self leading children outside the mainstream education system.

    WHO WE ARE:
We as a family prioritize sobriety so there is no mind altering substances consumed in our household and in the presence of our children. We also eat mostly organic food and an omnivore diet. We like to make sourdough bread (still learning)and do lots of home cooking. Collectively we have many instruments. We like to sing, dance, play, garden and grow food. We are always striving to be the best versions of ourselves, own our mistakes, and walk through life with humility and integrity.

Steven is a building contractor and has his own business. He is a man of many skills and can fix and build almost anything. He also likes to play music mostly didgeridoo and guitar. He is very creative and likes doing fun projects when there is time outside of taking care of the family needs. He is very loyal and is a man of his word. He is very present with his children and plays an active role in their lives outside of his work ling hours.

Myself, Alexia worked as a hairstylist for over 10 years and I am now a full time mother. I still cut hair from time to time when I have free hands and feel like it. I am full time with Kismet and soon to be baby #2. I like to paint when there is space and hope to do more of that as our kids grow more independently. I am pretty much down for any creative art project. Although most of them now are for my kids and not myself! Let’s make a piñata just because why not? I really appreciate sarcastic dry humour. I like being around people and sharing quality time.

Our daughter Kismet is 2 and constantly surprising us with new colours of her personality. She loves berries and loves to dance/play music, read books, and go to all kinds of shows. LOVES the swing at the park and always wants to go higher. She is talking lots and starting to play semi-independently. She enjoys helping us with dishes, wiping the table, cooking, and being involved in whatever it is we do.

Leela is almost 3 weeks old now (born aug 17th). She is super sweet and sleeps alot. She likes to drink milk and get burped on the reg.

    WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Someone to help with daily home life and running the household. Help with cooking and cleaning, baking, making sourdough and kombucha, chopping wood, lighting/keeping the fire going, help shopping at the market, creative play with kids, gardening, harvesting food and herbs to dry, dehydrating food, maybe some canning. Even though we need help with cleaning you will never be treated as a maid and expected to do all of that. Those kinds of household tasks will be shared. The exchange would be from 3-5 hours 5xweek. Weekends always free. We have a car for you to use and you must have a valid drivers license . All of the help would be mon-fri. You must like children for this role.

We are new to living in the space that is located on a 40 acre permaculture eco forest

    YOU SHOULD KNOW
We have no flush toilets in our house only compost toilets. Which means your poop feeds worms and eventually becomes soil and returned back to the earth.

    Hébergement

We have a private large loft bedroom space with composting toilet. There are no flush toilets in our home. We do have clean running water and the shower/bath is shared. We need to be mindful of water usage.

All meals provided and co-created. We tend to snack lots during the day and lunch is more flexible timing. We are omnivore and eat lots of ethically sourced organic animal products. We eat mostly organic food and lots of local or homegrown as well!

    Autres infos...

It is safe to hitchhike on the island and we also live on a main road where the bus stops. We do have a vehicle for your own personal use and we ask that you have a driver’s license that you can use in British Columbia. We live on 40 acres of forested property that backs onto a nature reserve.

On island there are 3 ferry terminals allowing you to visit surrounding areas easily on Vancouver Island, the mainland BC, and other southern gulf islands.

There are often live music shows, weekly ecstatic dance, lots of yoga classes/offerings, cacao ceremonies, wild harvesting workshops, basket weaving workshops, drop-in improv class, farm-stands, lots of hiking trails, lakes, and beaches. In the winter we sometimes do cold plunging in the ocean and have camp fires. Our winters are fairly mild here and not very cold compared to other parts of canada.
