  • Description

    Hello!!

I hope that you are well!

I am Liam and I'm wanting to spend some time at a Workaway destination in a part of Spain, France or the UK. I'm currently living at 'home' in London whilst I finish my Undergraduate Degree. However, as this is remote, part-time study, it allows me to live/explore elsewhere!

I am currently finishing a Degree in Geography and Politics. Whilst these university years have been tumultuous, I feel I have learnt more about myself and the world via this opportunity. And now I want to get out there, exploring and doing something fulfilling on this Earth!!

With this Workaway experience I am really looking for connection. One of the reasons I am exploring the option of Workaway now is because I've felt isolated working from home at times. So now I would love a setting in which I can be surrounded with likeminded, warm people. Ideally ones who also love nature, the outdoors, a sense of community and are also in search of more connection!

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Some more about myself:

I would say I'm a pretty easy-going person; as I've got older I'm definitely more direct in knowing/saying what I want though. With this I mean to say that I am a flexible person, able to follow schedules and work with others, so long as they meet my/our needs. I am a social person - I love to be surrounded with community and likeminded people. I also value solitude and time to disconnect and rest. I greatly value authenticity/honesty, and fun!

I dearly value Nature and the outdoors. I love sports (football, martial arts, basketball, tennis etc..), music, and a little dancing from time to time (although haven't really explored this as much). I'd like to learn more about Yoga, meditation and related spiritual practices too. I care about body mechanics and the health of our bodies (in relation to all of our being), so I follow these guidelines with my everyday movement :).

At the moment I feel strongly that I want a profession that involves both being outside/manual and social, ideally. I want a Workaway experience to further refine my understanding of what different jobs may entail, what I feel could suit me. At the moment I am exploring being a forest school teacher but I'm also open to a profession in gardening (permaculture), carpentry, plumbing, tree surgery, care work, therapy (mainly physical or Movement-based). Just some of the options there haha (of which I consider myself very fortunate to have)!

    Languages/Experience:

I speak native-level English, fluent Spanish, and some French. I lived in Madrid for 5 years (13-18 years old) so my Spanish language is based on this experience.
I'd like to further connect with the Spanish language but from a fresh perspective. My Spanish is not perfect; I also have some negative associations with the language as my time in Madrid was spent mainly at a school environment that I feel neither my brother nor I were best suited to. Regardless of all this, I'd just like to practice/learn the language more!

In terms of what Workaway experience I am looking for, ideally I would like to help with a role that involves some form of food growing/gardening/subsistence living. I've worked as a volunteer in a permaculture garden for a number of years, however I want to really live in a place to deeply learn about how food can be grown and all about the Land. My knowledge of subsistence gardening is not that strong, so I'd love to develop this knowledge.

I'm also very open to any general practical roles in general, so DIY jobs, carpentry, woodwork, plumbing, construction etc... I have no prior experience of these roles, but am very keen to learn more.

So, skills and things I can help out with include: gardening, construction, language support/tutoring, dog/animal care, and anything else really (so long as it's the right fit)!

I have experience working with young people through previous tutoring roles and an internship I carried out in the summer of 2022 at Washington Mind charity - a mental health charity in Sunderland, UK.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Any further questions about me, just let me know! I look forward to potentially meeting (and living) with you!! :)

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

    Work experience

    • Summer internship - I carried out a summer internship scheme at Washington Mind charity in 2022. My role was mainly focused around working on the Young People's Project - a progressive initiative that works to co-create opportunities for local young people to express the concept of 'mental health' (and their own) in less clinical, top-down ways.

    • Assistant gardener - Pruning and cutting down of trees, creating and tending to flower beds, clearing irrigation system, mowing and watering the lawn, swimming pool maintenance. I worked this paid, part-time job for 4 months from April 2020 until August 2020.

    Other relevant experience:

    • I am a volunteer for the permaculture garden at The Castle - a climbing centre in North London. I love volunteering there, it is alongside likeminded people who I can learn a lot from. I love nature, and permaculture farming is a fun and creative way for people to gain a greater connection to the edible plants that help us all live! Climbing at the centre is also really fun!

    • Experience caring for an elderly person - During the quarantine of the initial COVID-19 outbreak of March 2020 I moved to France to help care for my Grandmother who had Alzheimer's, who needed constant 24-hr care. I lived, worked (was able to find work as a part-time gardener) and attended online school in France from March 2020 to August 2020, leaving in August when my Grandmother’s usual carers were not restricted by the pandemic.
