My name is Mai, I am a 26 year old Japanese female and I usually work at Televi station. I decided to take a leave of absence this summer to travel.
I have been to study abroad and homestay several times.
I want to make my trip to experience nature and culture. I will tell you about Japanese food and Japanese culture, and help you with your work.

I am very good at communicating and also very good at cooking.
I make my own meals every day, so I can cook almost anything!

Although my stay was less than a week, they welcomed me with such warmth and kindness. It was my first time visiting France, and they not only taught me about French cuisine and local ingredients but also served me wonderful dishes. Before dinner, we had wine and snacks, ate oysters, and enjoyed authentic European cheeses and French bread.

They… read more showed me historical buildings and the Seine River, even taking the time to guide me around personally. Every evening, they invited me to join their family time, and I truly felt like part of their family. One of my best memories was going mushroom picking together — it was my first time ever doing that.

When we went out together, they would casually stop by a bakery, grab some baguettes or croissants, and eat them in the car on the way home. That kind of everyday French lifestyle felt so refreshing and special to me. And of course, they always shared the bread with me. I never felt like an outsider. Despite my short stay and the nature of the Workaway system — where a stranger suddenly joins a family — I didn’t feel any sense of distance at all. Everyone looked me in the eyes when we talked, and we had so many good conversations. It was really fun. Their English was also surprisingly clear and easy to understand, with almost no French accent.

Life there was very free and relaxed. There were no strict instructions like “wake up at this time” or “clean for this many hours.” I could enjoy living in a foreign country at my own pace.

I also had the chance to meet their daughter during my stay. she was so kind, gentle, and calm. I still remember cooking together with her. （Off topic, Her hair was especially pretty. I remember thinking I’d love to have curly hair like hers...）
Their son was full of energy, surrounded by toys, and I could really feel how loved he was. The whole family was warm and caring, and their home was filled with love.

I cooked some Japanese dishes like a mochi(not real one, when you guys come to japan plz eat properly one ok? let me know when you come,I’ll tell you which mochi from the local supermarkets is the best.), oyakodon, and salad with Japanese seasoning, and they were very happy with them. If I ever visit France again, I’d love to let them know. And for anyone considering Workaway, I would absolutely recommend this family.

Since about three days ago, the weather and temperature in Japan have finally become similar to how it was when I stayed at Anna’s home. It made me feel nostalgic and miss them..

Before her arrival, we had concerns whether a person from a different cultural region would have difficulty integrating into our family in such a short time. Those concerns were dispelled within the first few hours (!)

I stayed for 11 days, and they were incredibly kind to me every single day. While I was on the train alone heading to the station near their house, I felt nervous and anxious, but I got a message asking if there was anything I couldn’t eat and telling me they were preparing dinner for tonight, and that made all my anxiety go away.

I usually woke… read more up around 9 or 10, had breakfast with the family, helped clean up the kitchen, and then spent the day going out, playing with the children, or picking berries. Life there was very free and relaxed.

Their house often had visitors, and each time, they introduced me to everyone, so I was able to talk and interact with many people. Even though it was only a short 11-day stay, I feel like I made many acquaintances and friends.

Whenever there was a party, a festival, or a family event, they always asked, “Would you like to come with us?” I was truly happy every time. They spoke gently and calmly, and we never had any arguments or bad moods. Every morning they smiled and asked me, “How are you feeling? Did you sleep well?” and they hugged me just like they did with their children. That made me so glad.

The children were very energetic and kind. Since they spoke English, I was able to communicate with them well. They treated me as an equal, and when they played with their friends, they would happily ask me if I wanted to join too, which made me really happy. When I went to a party with their son, all of his friends were kind to me and we laughed a lot.
Both the son’s friends and the daughters’ friends were all kind and lovely.

They also took me to church. Since I haven’t had many opportunities to learn about religion in Japan, it felt very new and interesting.

The only regret I have is that we didn’t get to watch the movie we had promised to watch together. I’ll be sure to watch it later.
I was truly happy during my time there, and if any of my Japanese friends want to do Workaway, I will definitely recommend this house.
The house itself was also very beautiful, spacious, luxurious, and incredibly clean. They had dogs, cats, and rabbits, and not once did any of them bite me. they were all calm and well-behaved.
The father was gentle and always quietly smiling, and seemed to be the one the dogs were most attached to. The mother was a hardworking, loving, and beautiful woman who was always attentive to the house and children. She had many dresses, and her eyelashes were beautiful.
