Description
Hi, I’m Mateo — an explorer inspired by nature, music, and a deeper connection to life.
I grew up in southern Poland, surrounded by forests, rivers, and the Carpathian Mountains. That early connection to nature shaped how I see the world: as something to listen to, respect, and co-create with. Community, cooperation, and simplicity have always felt natural to me.
Professionally, I’m a structural engineer with over 10 years of experience, mainly in bridge design, and I’ve spent the last several years living and working in the UK. More recently, my focus has been shifting toward sustainable and ecological building methods, especially projects like earthships and low-impact homes.
Alongside my professional path, I’ve been following a personal calling—to live closer to nature and eventually help create a community rooted in connection, creativity, and shared purpose. A place by a river, near forests, where people can gather, build, grow food, share stories, and learn from each other.
Right now, I’m based in Cumbria, where I’m developing my home project, “The House of Talking Trees.” It’s a peaceful place near the English–Scottish border, open to travellers, creators, musicians, and anyone interested in a more conscious and grounded way of living.
I use Workaway to connect with like-minded people, support meaningful projects, and learn from communities already living closer to the land. I bring practical skills in building, engineering, gardening, and problem-solving, but I also value presence, collaboration, and good energy in shared spaces.
If our paths align, I’d be happy to contribute, exchange knowledge, and be part of something meaningful.

- Civil engineer - can design and construct some structures
- DIY around the house - got experiance and natural talent for that
- Gardning experiance, petiance and understanding the plants on a spiritual level ;)
- Got some experiance with Eco-Village Projects and I'm interested in learnign more
- I have lots of ideas about facilitating an off-grid household
- l love animals and am happy to help looking after them
