Description
I am an open-minded, friendly, respectful and active person whose biggest passion is learning and teaching. I also enjoy travelling the world and discovering new cultures. I prefer to do it through learning the language and I would like to consider speaking three just the beginning of my linguistic journey.
I have been working as a Private English tutor for over 14 years. I have been living in Colombia for 6 years, 5 of which working at an international school as a teacher an head of preschool and primary. I am always looking for opportunities to develop both as a person and a professional.
At this point in life, I would like to do volunteer work for 1-2 months in different places, as part of my journey around South America. I am fond of Latin American culture and people and would consider it an honor to be accepted into the community and be given the opportunity to contribute in a variety of areas.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
Sports such as football, Gaelic football, cycling, running and martial arts have been part of my life for many years. Dancing (folklore, Zumba, hip-hop), Drama and Art have been my hobbies since early childhood, while I continue learning new styles and techniques. In my free time, I like drawing, reading and travelling. Recently I have started learning video editing. My main hobbies right now are hiking and off-road motorcycling.
Over the years of working in international companies, I have built good relationships with people from different backgrounds, various countries and cultures, religions and economic status. I consider myself to be a person, who always welcomes suggestion by others and is keen to learn from the people around. I find that being approachable, wholehearted and respectful with parents and colleagues is key to a positive relationship.
I also have very good organisational and problem-solving skills.

My name is Eva and I have been volunteering at this place for 8 months (in Restrepo, Villavicencio and Honda). Overall, I am very happy with my experience. Below, I have described in details a few points that I think are useful for the future volunteers to know.

Teaching
A volunteer is required to plan and teach a set numbers of lessons a week.… read more Soth is great at providing training and helping new volunteers plan the lessons. Every week the lessons are also reviewed during the planning meetings. Usually everyone is open to suggestions and new ideas. Depending on the location and the projects, teaching time might vary but I always had enough time for myself. On average, children are quite well behaved and are super excited to learn English with the volunteers.

Communication with Soth and Hugo
One of the most important things when you are abroad by yourself is to feel that you aren't actually by yourself. During this whole time, I felt like whatever the questions, whatever the reason, Soth and Hugo have always been there to listen and help.

Restrepo
A small town, not as small as you think. There are places to eat, play pool or tejo. There are a coupld of supermarkets, lots of fruit and veg shops, and even a small shopping mall with a cinema. It is a very safe town. There are a few bars in town if you wanted to dance at the weekend. A couple of hikes nearby, you can also go to an ecological farm about 10 km away, or visit other nearby towns. 35 min by bus you will find Villavicencio, a fairly big city where you can buy most of the things you need.

Honda
A bigger town with a pretty colonial centre. It's very hot in Honda, but fresh juice stands on most streets save you from that a little bit. You can go swim in a river nearby, go to the top of one of many mountains or simply chair with a nice coffee and a cake. Also a very safe town, although, same as anywhere in the world, I wouldn't recommend walking by yourself at night, just get a cheap taxi. At the weekend, the nightlife is quite lively. Because of where Honda is located, if you have 3-4 free days, you could easily go to Bogota, Medellin, Manizales, Pereira or Ibague for a weekend getaway.

Both, Restrepo and Honda, have hospitals, so in case medical help is needed, both towns have doctors.
The towns are quite cheap, so if you cook for yourself or eat where the locals do, you won't spend a lot of money.
The towns have cultural centres, Honda has a music school, so if you are interested in engaging more with the local, learning about the culture and picking up new skills, there are opportunities in both.
In both places, the foundation is friends with some locals, who are happy to show you around, practise English and Spanish together.

Colombians are super friendly and kind, they will always try to help you when they can.

Personally, I am very happy with the foundation and couldn't wish for a better experience! Highly recommended.
