I’m living in Germany and for my gap year I’d like to explore more of Spain, especially the countryside and maybe one of the Canary Islands. I’m mostly interested in interior design and videography :)

hello there,

you know that one restless person on travels, the one that can never get enough of exploring a new city, the person that after a full day of walking still likes to wander the streets at night, even in pouring rain while everyone else is recovering from the busy day?

Well, that´s me. Amelie from Germany. I’m currently 19 years old and just graduated from high school.

Besides dragging my travel companions out of the door to catch the sunrise, in my friend group I am known as the optimist, the person who asks philosophical questions out of the blue and the creative friend who looses herself in creating a photo album for a birthday or a crossword puzzle for a gift.

Ever since I was little I felt as if my place in the world won’t ever be my home country. Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of benefits about living in Germany, I just always ached to go as far away as possible haha. So I started exploring new places. My first trip without my parents was a bike tour with friends. I was 14.
Since then I did a foreign exchange year in the U.S for 10 months, drove for 10 hours to enjoy the summer in the South of France and did an Interrail Tour through 5 countries for a whole month with two other friends.

Although I’ve been to Madrid and Barcelona, I’m really curious to experience more of the spanish lifestyle and improve my spanish while living with a native family. I’m interested in either construction and decoration work, farming or being socially active. Another big interest of mine is interior design.

For me, one of the most fascinating things about speaking a different language is how your tone and attitude changes. When I talk in my mother language, my voice often sounds monotonous as if it was tired of saying the same words I have said my whole life. Speaking english, on the other hand, turns me into a more enthusiastic person, sometimes I’m even more confident than when I speak german. Spanish still is a language I can’t properly use without thinking about my sentence so I it’s a lot of fun when I get the opportunity to speak more which I am hoping to be able to do. Additionally I’d love to teach someone german or english, in the past year I even tutored a girl in english and it’s always a good opportunity for me to freshen up my skills. Learning spanish has always been a bliss in school because we were a fairly small class and therefore able to do a lot of fun activities. What also fascinates me about the language is its expression of emotion through little words whereas in german we need to use three or more words combined.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

In school I was happy to take on as many language courses as possible, so I learned english for nine years, french and spanish for five years. Art class was another favorite of mine, especially the bigger assignments such as ceramics, model houses and upsycle project.

here are other skills of mine:

-filming and editing (I started doing vlogs with my sister and uploaded a few youtube videos of my exchange year @asme lie)

- creative writing and informative writing (blogs / articles)

-painting and decorating ( I redid our entire entryway with wallpaper and paint, helped a friend of mine source furniture for his dorm room and then there are also the countless hours I’ve spent rearranging and decorating my room)

-taking care of children (I did babysitting for several years)

-service (waitress and barkeeper)
part time job in June 2020 until October 2020
full time job in August 2023 until now


I can also assure you I am willing to take on and master almost any task and even if it starts out harder than imagined I am always positive to find a solution!

I am a passionate (ballet) dancer, good tennis player and have always been a book lover. Also me and my family own a rescue dog and I’m a big animal lover.

In my daily life I constantly seek out the balance between adventure and mundane activities. One day I might wake up at 6 a.m to go skiing and afterwards even walk for hours at a Christmas market, the next I’m cuddled up under a blanket while reading and later cook with my family.

I would describe myself as a night person, as I get most of my work done in the late afternoon and rather stay up late and sleep in, but I happily get up in the middle of the night to catch a flight or -you guessed it- a pretty sunrise.
