Hello there :)
My name is Anja and I am a 26 year old girl from North-Western Germany. I am infinitely curious about the world around me and would love to travel, learn new skills and make memories with friendly, open-minded people from all sorts of different cultures.
My goal is always to make the people I am with feel happy and comfortable and to leave them in a great mood. I enjoy making myself useful and helping out where I can.
Workaway was recommended to me by one of my university professors and I've had two amazing workaway experiences already! After I finish my studies in spring 2024, I'd love to do some more travelling and exploring :)
I am creative, sociable and a bit of a language/linguistics nerd. My favourite things are singing, acting, figure skating, sewing, the ocean, and chocolate with liquorice (a bit weird, but delicious! Trust me :D).

I am a total language nerd and would love to learn pretty much any language, dialect, or accent. Currently, I only speak English and German at a native level (plus basics in Spanish, Italian, and Latin) but have always wanted to be able to communicate with people from all walks of life. So if you're interested in practising your English (I can also teach university-level linguistics, grammar, history, and literature) / German and teaching me about your language, please contact me. I'd love to hear from you and maybe set up a zoom/skype/whatever call.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
CREATIVE SKILLS:
I work as an actress, mostly in musical theatre and opera, so I'm always happy to sing, dance, act, and make music with you :) Singing and figure skating are my two biggest passions!
I love all types of handicrafts, but the ones most dear to my heart are sewing and dressmaking.
Would also be able to assist you with any photo/video/editing projects or digital art. Could provide a decent quality drone for aerial shots :)
I'm happy to cook - and especially bake - for you. :)
I'm certainly not the most experienced person in terms of building/carpentry/etc. you'll come across on Workaway, but I have completed some in- / outdoor renovation projects and am happy to help out and learn wherever I can.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
I am currently an MA student of British and American studies at a university in Germany. I speak English and German with native-like proficiency and would be able to help with language teaching or translations. I've taught English linguistics at university level for two years + have my TEFL certificate in teaching English for business. If you're interested in publishing, I may also be able to help you out, since I have experience working for a scientific journal and could offer proof-reading and peer-review services etc.
I speak Italian at A2 level and am currently taking a course to improve my speaking skills - if you are a proficient speaker of Italian, I'd love to learn from you!

SOCIAL SKILLS:
I have experience in childcare and teaching (used to work as a German teacher to children from refugee families / as a nanny) and am very involved in caring for my grandparents with physical disabilities.
I am very interested in sustainable and culturally conscious developmental aid projects and have collaborated on fundraising projects with Worldvision and Unicef.
This past year I've been able to gain some experience in retail and customer service while working as a salesperson for glass and porcelain + worked as a weekend attendant at a car dealership throughout high school (although I do not know anything about cars - my job was mostly customer care :D ).

I've unfortunately had a bit of a run-in with a dog a few years ago, so if you have a dog taller than about knee-height, please let me know so I can mentally prepare myself in advance ':D

I am eager to work wherever I can be of use, whether that be planting trees or teaching a language course. What is important to me is just that the people I would be staying with treat me kindly and with respect and I will most definitely do the same in return. :)

Anni was a great addition to our team. Although she did not stay very long with us she was very enthusiastic, engaged and energetic. She speaks English fluently, she is very creative and is a dab hand at Photoshop. We wish her every success in her Workaway travels and in her ice-skating!

I have so much love and appreciation for this camp that there is no way this comment could even begin to measure up! Every little detail of this workaway has been above and beyond what I could have ever expected:

The house is exactly as shown in the pictures, except the view is even better in person! Malta, Comino and Gozo are simply beautiful… read more and there is so much to see and do. In our free time, we went on boat tours, rock climbing, explored cities and some hidden ruins near the coast, went swimming in the crystal clear sea, went out for dinners / drinks and even met some chameleon friends in the wild (possibly one of the most exciting moments of my life so far haha)!

There was never a dull minute in the house as we were so busy having fun, cooking, doing workshops and working on our projects. The first couple of days were spent doing team building exercises. We had some intense brainstorm sessions, did detailed research on different issues in Ghana and, based on this research, decided on our projects. Our group happened to be passionate about two different projects, so we worked in two smaller groups. The work was intense and kept us up late at night sometimes, but it was always out of interest and passion for what we were doing. If you are thinking about applying for a workaway here and you have a genuine passion and drive for helping in developmental aid, this is the place for you!
Presenting the project after all the work was done was a very rewarding and pleasant experience. Tommy was very nice and encouraging during our Skype calls, even though we had some technical difficulties :D

A special thank you to our wonderful facilitators, Megan and Valentini (and Dimitrius :D), who lead our group so well, guided us through the entire process and went on fun adventures with us! You made me feel so welcome from the minute I arrived and I learned a lot from you! Thank you! And, of course, thank you so so much to everyone who made Camp 14 so special!! You are all wonderful and I miss you very much!

I have learned a lot during my three weeks at the camp. That includes work experience and factual knowledge, but also a lot of personal growth. This place is fantastic as a first workaway and will give you all the confidence you need to keep on travelling and exploring the world!

After three weeks, I left the camp feeling absolutely heartbroken because I wanted to stay so badly! So now, I'm beyond happy to come back soon for two more camps!
