— We are currently updating this profile since traveling the world in 2019 & 2020, now travelling with our two girls born 2021 and 2023 —

We are a well-traveled swiss family with some workaway experience, currently trying to introduce our daughters (2 & 4) to the many colours of the world. We enjoy workaway because we are enthusiastic to learn about other cultures and would love to offer our helping hands.

Anita:
I can call myself lucky enough to say I enjoy my life to the fullest and I'm a generally happy soul. I'm more of a quiet person but can get talkative an loud depending on the environment. I can't stand inequality and get very emotional about it. Most of the time I prefer to listen before talking. I can get extremely enthusiastic about new things.

Patric:
I‘m just an ordinary guy, pretty relaxed and do not ask for much. While Anita takes the sensitive part in our relationship, I’m responsible for the rational part. Nevertheless, I love travelling and I'm always curious about new cultures. I always carry my bagpipe wherever I travel.

Anita:
*Childcare* (mum of two girls, volunteered for scouts, was an au-pair)
*Photography, Videography & Graphic Design* (hobby, took some classes, used some for work and have equipment and programs with me)
*Marketing & Communications* (studied and worked in)
*Languages* (i have a passion for it, native in German, proficient in English, fluent in spanish, but I also speak some French and very basic Russian
*Teaching* (certificate in adult education, one month of teaching experience in Kyrgistan, English and some German, levels A1-B1, 5-40 yo.)
*Cooking* (home cooking & cooking for guests)
*Charity/Social Projects* (love to help, have volunteered for social projects in Switzerland, have worked in an NGO)

These are my key skills but I am open for anything!

Patric:
*Software Developer* (studied and work experience): I'm fluent in different programming languages.
*Archaeology* (studied and field experience): Even when the most work has to be done in the library, I also know what it means to get dirty.
*Language skill* German native speaker, fluent in English, once fluent in French and I'm currently learning Spanish and Russian.
*Music*: My greatest obsession is playing the bagpipe. Even when I'm travelling, I always have an instrument with me.
*Cooking*: Live is too short to eat bad food.
*Teaching*: I gave Windows and Office lessons to unemployed people.
At University I taught statistical approaches to future archaeologists (that was hard ...), I taught English to Children and Young Adults in Kyrgistan

Wir sind nun seit zwei Wochen bei Tynara in Kara-Balta und werden noch zwei weitere hier bleiben. Wir unterrichten an der hiesigen Volkshochschule jeden Tag drei Stunden Englisch und eine Stunde Deutsch, danach erhalten wir eine Stunde Russischunterricht. Die meisten Schüler sind zwischen 15-30 Jahre alt. Da gerade Schulferien sind haben wir auch … read more eine Klasse mit Kindern. Die Klassen sind klein und die Schüler sind alle sehr motiviert und interessiert. Man ist in der Unterrichtsgestaltung völlig frei. Es stehen einige Bücher, ein Computer und ein Drucker zur Verfügung um Unterrichtsmaterial zusammenzustellen und Arbeitsblätter auszudrucken. Allerdings lässt sich nicht immer alles akribisch planen, da neue Schüler mit unterschiedlichen Levels dazu kommen und andere aufhören.
Wir wohnen mit zwei anderen Freiwilligen im wunderschönen, modernen und klimatisierten Haus der Familie mit drei Kindern. Tynara ist sehr gut vernetzt und organisiert für uns wunderbare Kulturerlebnisse. Wir waren zum Reiten in den Bergen und haben einen viertägigen Ausflug zum Issyk-Kul-See gemacht. Letzte Woche haben wir einen deutsch-kyrgisischen Kulturabend geplant und in einer Jurte gemeinsam mit den Schülern gegessen, getanzt und gesungen.
Dies ist unsere erste Workaway-Erfahrung und auch das erste Mal, dass wir unterrichten. Wir hätten es nicht besser erwischen können und sind sehr dankbar für die tollen Erlebnisse!

It has been two weeks now since we arrived in Kara-Balta and we will stay another two. We spend our mornings teaching English for three hours and German for one hour, before we can attend a Russian class set up for the volunteers. Most of our students are between 15 and 30 years old but because of the summer holidays, we also have a very sweet group of young children. The groups are small and all of the students are incredibly motivated and interested in learning.
We are free to plan our lessons as we like and have some books, a computer and a printer to prepare our materials at home. However, you can not always plan because there may be new students with different levels any day.
We are living with Tynara’s family and two other volunteers in their beautiful, air-conditioned house 20 minutes walk away from the school. Tynara has an incredible network all over Kyrgistan and has organised some wonderful cultural experiences for us. In this short time we have already been horse riding with a family in the mountains and Tynara has taken us all around Lake Issyk-Kul. Last week we organised a German-Kyrgiz cultural day and we ate, sang and danced with the students in a Yurt.
This is our first workaway stay and also our first time teaching. We couldn’t have wished for a better start and are very grateful for this experience!
