Description
EDIT 13/9/26: I am looking for Workaway experiences in British Columbia from late October to mid-December. Ideally I would like to stay with people for 2-4 weeks.
I have spent the last two months in Sweden. For my first Workaway I had the most wonderful experience supporting a couple with their farm. I helped to look after rabbits, chickens, geese and ducks. I helped build an outhouse - using hand tools and power tools and figuring it out as we go. I made them a new gate to keep the geese out of the house (see photo). I am foraging for berries, cooking meals and helping look after and walk their gorgeous big rottweiler. The couple had a very generous and kind spirit, I connected with them so well. We had many laughs and deep conversations. They taught me so much about being resourceful with materials, food and nature.
My second workaway has been taken offline now, not because of me! I was meant to be helping with the hosts permaculture gardens but the work was more focused around looking after her dogs and feeding the chickens. The host was unfortunatley unwell or away from the property a lot so I needed to use my initiative to find things to do! I weeded the gardens, made redcurrant jelly and took a lot of pleasure in taking care of the animals. Giving the ducks clean water every day and clearing the chicken coup.
I am now in my third workaway where I am supporting a sheep farmer with his flock of beautiful friendly sheep where he is following regenerative farming methods, and milking a cow daily! I love interacting with the animals and learning about the importance of soil quality and benefits of grazing animals, composting methods and food growing. We are also building a wolf-proof fence and preparing a lot of fire wood in preparation for winter.
From these early Workaway experiences I am learning what I love. I really enjoy looking after animals, spending time with them and learning about their needs and personalities. I am keen to get more experience with food growing. I love learning about peoples sustainable practices, living from the land and in tune with the seasons. I value open communication - I find its really helpful to set expectations around food, working hours, privacy and keep this communication open for check ins throughout the stay. I am honest and always open to feedback :) . I really value kindness to all living beings - humans, animals and the planet. I am a positive person with lots of energy and am always caring to those around me. I will shine best when
BACKGROUND
I am embarking on a nine-month slow travel journey in Wales, Sweden, Canada and Europe. I am leaving London well and truly behind and getting into my beloved Campervan Tina for a taste of the freedom life in nature brings and to embrace the opportunities to learn from people already living the life I aspire to live. I want to 'rewild' myself, as a woman of the land.
I would like to learn to live off the land, grow and forage for food, live seasonally, spiritually, preserving, harvesting, looking after animals. I'd like to increase my confidence with building projects and cooking for large groups of people.
I have lived in London for 20 years and during that time have escaped for many mini-adventures (hiking, bike packing, camping, trails, cycling), but this is going to be the big one. -

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
Animal care - through my workaway experiences I have been caring for rabbits, geese, chickens, dogs, sheep and milking a cow! While I am very much still a novice (other than dogs - see below)
Hospitality - I have around 20 years experience in restaurants, bars and events. I am an excellent host and a real team player. I love looking after people and I am practical in how I approach tasks. I am a competent cook.
Nutrition - I am a qualified Dietitian and have been working the in the NHS for seven years. I work in the hospital environment. I have basic knowledge of healthcare, I am empathetic, caring and patient. I am passionate about food and nutrition.
Practical - I trained in cabinet making for two years at art college. I have made some fantastic pieces of fine furniture from raw timber. However this is not a skill I have used for a number of years (looking to improve it!). I have run my own home for ten years as a single female - fixing things, home improvements, decorating, fitting doors. I have redeveloped my garden completely, successfully making a small sanctuary in the city. I am familiar with power tools and hand tools.
Animals - I love looking after animals and more of this is a big goal of my travel. I grew up helping on a farm at weekends. In London I have fostered a number of rescue dogs, providing a home until they are able to be adopted. I have fostered bigger bull breeds and greyhounds.
Circle facilitator - I hold womens circles in my home. Providing a safe space for women to tell their story. This builds community, connection and humanity.
Adventurous - I am brave and able to travel alone. I have cycled the Pacific coast with just my tent and bicycle. I often lead others in hikes, camping and cycling etc. -

Autres infos...
I am really an active person, I love walking, tennis, yoga, cycling, hiking. I love architecture and building work. I love animals.
I actually really like playing games and would love to do this more often!
I am developing a deeper connection with myself, my role as a woman and as a caretaker of this land. As I learn about our lineage I am facinated by how much of what I yearn for is what has been lost in modern society - slower living, caring for community, listening to our intuition, listening to the land, the awareness we have enough ( could go on!). I am very much on a path of 'remembering' the things that nourish us as humans. -
