Hello!

I’m Barney, from Budapest.
I grew up in Hungary but spent several years living in the US.

So far, I’ve traveled to 38 countries, often road-tripping and camping along the way.

I’m a certified Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with a post-grad specialization in exotic animals. Customer service and being flexible is essential in my profession. Alongside that, I’ve worked in restaurants and various roles in the hospitality industry, which helped me develop a strong work ethic and excellent people skills.

I speak fluent English (C2), native Hungarian, and have conversational knowledge of French and German. I also hold driver’s licenses for both cars and motorcycles.

I’m passionate about animals, plants, and the outdoors. Some years ago I started a project renovating and old cottage in the countryside, where I have an organic orchard and vineyard.
I also own a small weekend house by lake Balaton, a very touristy area of Hungary, which is currently being renovated, and I am planning on opening it for Workawayers in the future.

I enjoy meeting new people, building connections, and learning about different cultures. I’m adaptable, a reliable team player, and comfortable working independently too.

My favorite activities include photography, gardening, paragliding, hiking, kayaking, sailing, and pretty much anything that gets me outside and active.

I joined Workaway because I’m currently on a gap year and looking for meaningful, hands-on travel experiences that go beyond being just a tourist. I hope to contribute, learn, and create genuine friendships along the way.
