Hi! We are a young couple from Denmark, Solveig (21) and Mahan (22), who loves playing music, cooking together and meeting new people! We are hands-on, and always happy to help where needed.

Description

We are a young couple from Denmark, Solveig Maria Mortensen (21) and Mahan Malek (22), and we are both currently taking a gap year, travelling through Europe and looking for our next Workaway adventure.

Before starting our journey, we lived together in an apartment in Vejle, Denmark for two years. Living together has taught us how to work well together as a team, share responsibilities, communicate openly, and create a calm and positive everyday life. We are easy-going, respectful, and adapt quickly to new people, places, and routines.

We love travelling and experiencing new cultures, not just as tourists, but by getting to know the people and everyday life of the places we visit. Over the years, our travels have taken us to different parts of Europe and Southeast Asia, strengthening our curiosity, flexibility, and appreciation for different ways of living. Those experiences eventually inspired us to start our Workaway journey.

We are both creative people, and music has always been a big part of our lives. Solveig has played classical piano since childhood, and Mahan is a self-taught guitarist and lead-singer in a band. We also love spending time in the kitchen together, trying new recipes and sharing meals with the people around us. Solveig especially enjoys baking and is currently baking fresh bread every morning for everyone at our current Workaway.

We are naturally hands-on people who enjoy keeping busy and taking initiative. Whether it's practical tasks, cooking, gardening, or simply helping wherever an extra pair of hands is needed, we enjoy being involved and contributing to everyday life. We are reliable, hardworking, and genuinely enjoy learning new skills along the way.

For the past 5–6 weeks, we have been staying at a Workaway in the French Pyrenees, where we've had the opportunity to help with everything from gardening and property maintenance to cooking and preparing Airbnb accommodations for guests. It has been an incredibly rewarding experience and has made us even more excited to continue our Workaway journey.

We are currently looking for our next Workaway from the end of August or the beginning of September until September 26th. Spain would be an ideal location, but we are also very open to opportunities elsewhere and always excited to discover somewhere new.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

We are currently staying at a Workaway in the French Pyrenees, where we have spent the past 5–6 weeks helping maintain a large property. Our work has included gardening, creating and maintaining vegetable beds, general upkeep of the house, garden, and swimming pool, cooking for the group, and preparing Airbnb accommodations for new guests. This experience has strengthened our ability to adapt quickly, take initiative, and confidently take on a wide variety of practical tasks.

Before starting our travels, we both gained several years of experience in customer service and hospitality, where we developed strong communication skills, learned to work efficiently under pressure, and became used to taking responsibility while working as part of a team.

Solveig has several years of experience working in both cafés and fine dining restaurants as a waiter, barista, and bartender. At Café Vivaldi in Denmark, she was promoted to a supervisory role and later worked as both assistant manager and acting manager. In these roles, she was responsible for daily operations, staff coordination, scheduling shifts, ordering supplies, handling customer communication, and supporting the team during busy service. This experience strengthened her leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Mahan has several years of experience in customer service, and used to work full-time at a busy petrol station, mostly working independently and taking responsibility for the daily operation of the shop. His work includes preparing food and drinks, serving customers, and ensuring everything runs smoothly during his shifts.

We both hold a Danish upper secondary school diploma (STX) from Rosborg Gymnasium, both with English and Music as our main subjects.

We are friendly, reliable, and hardworking people who enjoy meeting new people and contributing to a positive atmosphere. We take pride in being responsible and helpful, and we always approach new experiences with curiosity, motivation, and a willingness to learn.

After our first Workaway experience in the French Pyrenees, we have really enjoyed this way of travelling and the unique experiences it brings. We appreciate the combination of helping out, sharing everyday life with others, and discovering places in a more personal way than traditional travelling allows.
