Description

Hi! I’m Katniss Hsu, from Taiwan. I describe myself as a multi-faceted person who finds joy in exploring the unknown. To me, the most exciting part of life is "learning by doing"—diving into a new world rather than just observing it from the outside.

In daily life, I’m easy-going and a great listener (as my friends often say!), but I also value healthy boundaries. I’m a highly responsible person—once a task is in my hands, I give it my absolute best. While I might feel a bit of "perfectionist anxiety" when facing new challenges, I always work hard to overcome it and get the job done right.

I am currently on a Working Holiday in Canada. I chose Workaway because I want to explore different ways of living and step out of my comfort zone. I believe that by immersing myself in local life and contributing to different projects, I can better understand myself and the world around me. Whether it's through hands-on help or daily conversations, I want to learn new skills and truly connect with the people I meet.

Nature is my sanctuary. Whether it’s the sound of waves or birds chirping in a forest, being outdoors helps me stay grounded and peaceful. Exploring Canada's breathtaking landscapes through Workaway is a dream come true for me.

My past volunteer experience in Mongolia taught me the joy of helping others, and I’ve been looking for the right moment to step out again. I am ready to assist your household with my best efforts, make new friends, and share my culture with you! 😊

Hello everyone! I'm Katniss from Taiwan. Although I’ve studied English for years, I feel like I've hit a plateau with my speaking and writing—sometimes my phrasing feels a bit redundant or influenced by my native grammar. One of my goals with Workaway is to refine my English through daily immersion. In return, I’d be happy to teach you Mandarin, practice conversation with you, and share interesting stories about myself or Taiwanese culture!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

1. Community Engagement & Social Interaction👥
In university, I studied Creative Writing and Anthropology. I participated in hands-on projects like regional revitalization, where I worked in traditional buildings, organized exhibitions, and interviewed local elders. I love listening to people’s life stories and have a natural ability to connect with seniors while respecting their local culture.

2. Theater & Communication💞
I co-founded an Applied Theater group. We worked with children and the elderly, using drama to explore themes like family and heritage. We listened to their stories and performed them back to them to create a deep, emotional connection. This experience helped me become a better listener and learn how to build trust with people from all walks of life.

3. Education & Languages💬
I am a native speaker of Mandarin. My English is between Intermediate and Upper-intermediate—I can communicate effectively in daily life, and I am eager to further improve my fluency through interaction.

I have diverse teaching experience📚:

a. Private tutor for Mandarin.
b. Substitute teacher in primary schools.
c. English teacher in kindergartens.

I value the "teacher-friend" relationship and love seeing students grow. While I haven't taught Mandarin to foreigners yet, I’m very open to trying and would love to help your children learn in fun, creative ways!

4. Cooking🍳 & Home Maintenance🪠
These are things I do for pure joy:

Cooking:
I love cooking authentic Taiwanese home-style dishes (my friends often say it tastes like "home"). It was my favorite way to destress during busy university days.

Cleaning:
I really value a clean and organized environment, especially bathrooms! I’ve researched eco-friendly cleaning methods using citric acid and baking soda. Keeping a space tidy gives me a great sense of accomplishment.

5. Metaphysics♓
As a side interest, I study Astrology and Tarot. I often do readings for my friends to help them gain clarity on different situations. If you’re interested, I’d be happy to share a Tarot reading with you during our stay!
