Description
The story of us... we (Sarah-Maude & Braydon) met in a wigwam in Quebec during a winter Rainbow gathering, and started to weave a story together from those humble beginnings in the forest. Together we now live off-grid in an intentional forest community in New Brunswick, and teach at a nature school. Our lives are mutually connected to nature, artistry, teaching, off-grid lifestyles, wanderlust, and the creative spirit. We both live in harmony with the natural world, and our spirits are dedicated to manifesting love, abundance, goodness, and inspiration in the world. We love our life. Taking care of our home, our garden, our land. Nourishing our bodies with healthy foods, movements and constant learning. Respecting our environment, giving and aknowledging and being grateful for all we receive. We love living in a community centered around an Art and Nature school. We also love to explore and see what lies over the horizon.

Sarah-Maude is Québécoise (francophone) and works with families/children. She is also talented with gardening, various art styles like pyrography, drawing, painting, yoga, and silk dance. She loves to explore and to be in awe. She traveled and lived in Ecuador in her teenage years for an exchange student program and has lived on a sailboat with her family in her younger years with her parents.

Braydon creates one of a kind journalism from his travel experiences, and is a gifted storyteller, bushcrafter, yogi, forester, and homesteader. He is a cultural ambassador, and builder of bio-structures, with a motivation for animal protection and ecological conservation. Also a Viking at heart, and proud of his heritage.

In the winter of 2025, we travelled on the Asian continent and Oceania. We had a unique experience, with a sustainable traveling ethos that forgets the tourist traps and destructive practices of luxury vacationing, but instead embraces the sacred offerings of local culture, tribal affairs, perma-culture, animal welfare, and ecological communities. We have many stories to tell... And we would love to continue to discover the world and the ways of other lands.

We are curious to see where life is going to take us next...

Without a shadow of a doubt, this family is pure love. We were hosted by them originally for five days which extended to eight days, in an exchange that was as much beautiful as it was honest, meaningful, and important in our lives. Each new day was a surprise, and the routines of the household were easily adopted, as we learned more about their… read more life-ways, priorities, and customs.

As we engaged with the entire four generation family deeper, we started to see their unique light shining, and how we could show up in the lives in the most connected ways. Tokuya showed us how he prepares his garden after the long, cold Nagano winter, and we tilled the soil to plant potatoes. We also made Soba from scratch together. Yukiko was naturally curious and open minded, and we enjoyed chatting about young education, philosophical subjects, and Japanese traditions. The kids were very well mannered, they never watched tv, mostly enjoying their manga books or playing a game together. They also showed courage in getting to know us as foreigners which can be challenging at that age with the cultural and language barrier. The grandma was extremely sweet, seemingly so at peace with life, never stressed. baking matcha shortbread, puttering around in the garden, tending flower beds, and hiking with us to an ancient temple on a cliff. Her energy was light and easy to be around. The great grandma showed us some of the old customs, like how to wear a Kimono, the rules of matcha ceremony, Japanese etiquette, and she was keen to let us into her past, by showing photography of her Soba restaurant and pickle factory, plus making origami, and eating with us one night. Then of course, the baby was always looking to connect with the world, so impressed by everything and fairly calm. At the end, she reached for Sarah-Maude's arms, and that felt like a sign of acceptance, like we had truly been welcomed into the family.

Everything that made its way to the table was a true culinary experience; three types of curry, japanese meatloaf, sashimi, miso, endless cups of rice, fresh soba noodles, and I will never forget the amazing shabu-shabu. We would love to cook for you in Canada if you ever come to New Brunswick, and I am happy you enjoyed our pancakes.

We are touched by all the special moments we shared, and would love to see you again, if we are so lucky to visit Japan again.
