  • Description

Hi, I'm Randi, and I love people and animals. I have volunteered on several farms across Europe and Canada where I have had to care for various animals, and I've done more community/family oriented stays in the US. I have a few years of experience in hospitality tourism, and as an avid traveler, I'm excited to meet and learn from new people! I am always open to new experiences, and like to push myself to try out new things all the time. My ideal workaway would have at least 1 horse and 1 cat and something to do outside!

I would love to learn more about permaculture practices, how to preserve fruits + veggies, and how to process herbs and flowers for oils/tinctures/etc. On the off chance you can help me learn archery, sword/stick fighting, carriage driving, weaving or something else unique, I would love it!

In Canada I am a certified equine massage therapist, energy worker, and am passionate about wellness for animals and humans alike. I'm a born entrepreneur, so that means I'm solution-oriented and keep trying! I am always growing my knowledge of plant care/gardening, and would love to connect with people who are passionate about growing and preserving their own food. Ideally I would like to have my own small holding with a polytunnel and rescue animals. I'm excited that I have a solid understanding of mushroom cultivation and would love to share/practice that with others.

Hi I'm Rene. I am a certified audio engineer and have made my career working for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Canada's national television broadcasting corp., as an audio mixer and a video editor for news and various productions. During this time I owned a 150 acre homestead where I have raised various types of chickens for egg production and meat birds. I have built my own greenhouse and have taken care of large gardens, growing a multitude of vegetables, fruits and herbs. I heated my house with a wood stove and am well experienced with using chainsaws and wood splitters as I cut approx. 5 to 10 cords of wood annually. I love being in the forest and have foraged for berries, mushrooms, herbs and medicinal plants.

I am very handy with tools and have worked in construction building houses, and have built several buildings for myself including my log home, greenhouse, dog house, wood shed... and more... and have done extensive renovation work on large garages and homes.

I have experience with plumbing, electrical and construction, as well as maintenance experience with air handling units, air conditioners, boilers, restaurant equipment, pools, pumps, heating equipment and general maintenance of a 90 room resort on an accessible island on lake Winnipeg where I have worked as maintenance supervisor for over 4 years.

I have also owned several businesses, including a pizza take out and delivery business, a full service restaurant and a carpet cleaning business.

I love the outdoors, and love to create and build. I love to play guitar and write and record my own music and edit videos. I love to record nature sound. I love to travel and meet new and interesting people and am always researching and learning about this beautiful world in which we live.

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Randi: I have loads of experience with animals and hospitality, and love getting to form connections. I have some informal experience with renovation and painting, and really enjoy doing physical work where you see your results. I understand organic gardening basics (admittedly more than beginner's knowledge) and permaculture theory, and have done some landscaping. I have experience caring for competition horses and basic care knowledge for other farm animals.
I am not great with caring for for multiple young children (one is fine!) nor intensive cleaning - but there can always be exceptions made.

Rene: see description above (sidenote - kids are cool)

  • Autres infos...

I love to travel and explore, and cultural exchange is the most fun part of travel for me. I started volunteering internationally when I was 19, which includes WWOOF and HelpX. I have traveled without money in the past, which was an amazing experience. I choose to see people as good first!

René is bilingual and fluent in French. He is more interested in learning Spanish and Thai and I have a curiosity for German.

I'm interested in learning more about no dig, general food/herb/flower preservation methods, and creating raised beds/light woodworking skills. René would like to learn new skills along the lines of building/renovating with stone, learning innovative ways of doing systems in an eco/permaculture way, and growing and working with bamboo and cacao, but wants to learn anything about everything he can.

I'm not at all interested in doing drugs, and *maybe* a glass of wine. I only put into my body what helps me feel aligned, and no plant medicines are not drugs. Rene loves a glass of dry, red wine, but is otherwise on the same page.

Please note I only drive automatic, and have limited experience on the left side of the road. René can drive manual (prefers not to) and has driven for a couple of weeks in England + Australia pretty successfully!
