  • Description

We’re a lil' family of three, Nathalie, Tomer and our son Pom.

For several years, we spent a lot of time traveling and volunteering, mostly through WWOOF.
We met in Nepal, fell in love there, and kept moving for about four and a half years across Asia and beyond, travelling slowly, with a focus on learning from the places we stayed in, rather than just passing through.

We’ve volunteered on farms and in different kinds of projects in Japan, Greece, Italy, Israel, India, and France. What we’re really interested in is not just techniques, but ways of living, how people relate to land, food, work, and to each other.
We enjoy very much the opportunity to taste and experience firsthand many different ways of living and in that respect, each place we’ve volunteered in or stayed at gave us another beautiful bead to add to our necklace.

We’re big believers in learning by doing. You have to get all your senses involved. The body holds onto memories just as much as the mind does. And we enjoy it all the more when it is a shared endeavour, to the rhythm of stories and laughter.

That's why we're genuinely grateful that platforms like Workaway exist, because it allows us to learn from and exchange with each other in many meaningful ways.

Right now, after a couple of years in the french Pyrenees, we’re planning a journey across Italy. The idea is to move from place to place, help out on farms and projects, and get a real sense of where we might want to settle long-term.
Italy feels like the right place for us; Nathalie has family roots there and strong childhood memories, and it’s also a country where homeschooling/unschooling is still possible, which is important for us.

We’re looking for places where there is some form of community, even informal; people who help each other, share skills, and are open to meaningful connection.

What we can offer / experience:

    - Gardening and permaculture (planting, weeding, harvesting, general maintenance, seed saving, plant propagation. Herbs, plants, and growing food are passions of ours
    - Experience with organic and small-scale farming environments
    - Cob and Natural building strong interest and hands-on experience
    - we can use power tools and have more than basic construction skills
    - Cooking, baking (especially sourdough bread), food preservation and fermentation (kombucha, milk and water kefir, yogurt, kimchi)
    - Foraging
    - Sewing, mending, embroidery, natural dyes, wild basket weaving, spoon carving
    - Photography (Tomer has studied photography in Art School and has a lot of experience)
    - General practical help . We’re used to adapting and learning quickly
    - Living off grid. We have experience with this because we've lived and volunteered in off grid communities and homesteads so we are used to being aware of electric and water usage and being frugal with what is available
    - As for farm animals, we have experience with chickens and goats.

We’re not experts, but we’re reliable and hard-workers, we learn fast, and most importantly, we really want to take part in the projects we'll be visiting.

We would describe ourselves as responsible, practical and very curious people. We value learning, open-mindedness, kindness, good communication, and genuine connection.

We’re both used to physical work and actually enjoy it. We like understanding how things function and being useful where we are.

We love being outdoors, walking, observing, and taking time to understand a place. We also love cooking and experimenting with the slow transformation of raw materials.

    We do not smoke.

Nathalie is especially interested in languages, anthropology, plants and herbal knowledge, seed saving, literature, vernacular architecture, story telling and anything related to traditional crafts, traditional textiles and basket weaving.

Tomer builds, fixes, photographs, and tends to look at things from a “how does this work / how could this be improved” perspective. He also enjoys long conversations and chess.

Pom (who's 8,5) is growing up in all of this.
He’s curious, active, and likes to be involved in whatever is happening.
We’ve already done volunteering with him in Italy and France, and it’s been a meaningful experience for everyone.
Having him with us means we’re attentive to the environment we’re in; it’s very important for us to be in environments where children are respected and considered as full individuals, and where learning can follow their natural curiosity.
We are drawn to active, non-directive approaches to education, where the child’s interest leads the way.
