Finishing my A-Levels, taking a Gap Year, traveling to Sweden to enjoy nature, help out, meet people, and experience countryside life.

Description

Last year, I traveled to Amsterdam and Paris with Interrail, stayed in hostels, and explored the cities on my own. I enjoyed traveling alone and taking full responsibility for my trip. This year, I would love to travel to Scandinavia, especially Sweden, to experience its beautiful nature, peaceful countryside, and unique culture. It has always been a big dream of mine to see reindeer and the Northern Lights, even though I know they’re a winter phenomenon, and to experience everyday life in rural Sweden. I am very interested in learning more about Swedish traditions, culture, and people, and I really enjoy spending time with others and being part of a community.

Alongside school, I currently work as a waitress in an Italian restaurant, which has made me reliable, flexible, and used to helping wherever I am needed. I am happy to support my hosts with all kinds of daily tasks, whether it is household work, helping around the property, gardening, farm-related tasks, or general assistance. I am not afraid of physical work and always try to do my best.

I also have experience with tutoring and babysitting children between the ages of 3 and 9. I truly enjoy working with children, taking responsibility, and creating a safe, positive environment for them. I am patient, caring, and attentive. I am a vegetarian and am used to cooking and eating simple, plant-based meals.

I am an open-minded, motivated, and helpful person who loves learning new things. Through Workaway in Sweden, I hope to contribute actively, gain new skills, and create meaningful connections while experiencing nature and culture in an authentic way.

After spending time in Sweden during my gap year, I plan to continue my journey to Costa Rica and Guatemala. This part of my travels is an important step for me to improve my Spanish and experience everyday life in a deeper and more meaningful way while connecting with local cultures and communities.

I enjoy an active lifestyle and love surfing, being outdoors, and spending time in nature. I have a strong interest in exotic animals, wildlife, and biodiversity, and I am especially fascinated by tropical ecosystems such as rainforest reserves and conservation-focused projects.

I am a service-oriented, open-minded, and reliable person who takes responsibility seriously. I enjoy working with people, supporting daily operations, and contributing to a positive and respectful environment. I am happy to help wherever support is needed and can imagine working in hostels, eco-projects, farms, surf camps, or rainforest reserves.

During my time in Latin America, I want to travel with intention — combining curiosity, cultural exchange, and personal growth with a committed and responsible approach to volunteering. I am motivated to contribute consistently, learn from my hosts, and be part of projects that value sustainability, community, and mutual respect.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I have experience in a variety of areas and I am highly motivated to help wherever support is needed. I am reliable, open-minded, and enjoy learning new skills while contributing positively to my host’s daily life.

Childcare:
I regularly take care of two young boys while their parents are working or busy with other commitments. I support them in all aspects of daily life – from changing diapers and comforting them, to playing, helping with routines, and assisting with homework. This has taught me patience, responsibility, and how to create a safe and trusting environment for children.
I also spend a lot of time with my 10-year-old cousin, who is a girl. We enjoy creative activities, playing, talking, and simply spending quality time together. I am caring, attentive, and enjoy supporting children in a warm and friendly way. I also hold a JuLeiCa (German Youth Leader Card), which has given me knowledge of child development, safety, and responsible group work.

Hospitality & Service:
I currently work as a waitress in an Italian restaurant and have previously gained experience in cafés and an ice cream parlor. I enjoy creating a welcoming atmosphere for guests, working in a team, staying organized, and handling busy situations. I also enjoy helping others learn basic service skills and supporting newcomers in the team.

Household tasks:
I regularly help my parents with household chores, cooking, and baking. I am comfortable tidying, preparing simple vegetarian or vegan meals, and supporting daily routines in a reliable and independent way.

Gardening and outdoor work:
Gardening has been a part of my life since childhood thanks to my family's allotment. I am familiar with general garden maintenance and enjoy physical work and being outdoors. After building a house and moving, I am helping my parents and brother design and maintain our new garden. My main subjects at school are biology, chemistry, and geography, which give me a good understanding of plants, ecosystems, soils, and environmental processes. This knowledge helps me approach projects in agriculture, gardening, and nature with thoughtfulness and curiosity, and I love learning how science works in practice.

Tutoring & Education Support:
I have been giving tutoring lessons in English and Math for the past two years. I enjoy explaining topics clearly and patiently, adapting to different learning styles.

Organization & General Help:
I actively participate in organizing school projects and events, including graduation celebrations. I am flexible, motivated, and happy to take initiative. I work reliably, learn quickly, and always aim to support my hosts in the best possible way.

In my free time, I enjoy swimming, running, and practicing yoga, as staying active and balanced is important to me. I also like meeting friends, spending time together, and playing card games or board games. I am an adventurous and curious person who enjoys trying new things and stepping out of my comfort zone.

I would describe myself as creative, social, and positive. I laugh easily, enjoy good conversations, and like being around people. At the same time, I appreciate calm moments and nature. Family is very important to me, and I value trust, respect, and a warm, supportive environment. I also care about conscious and healthy nutrition and enjoy learning more about a mindful lifestyle.
