  • Description

    Hi there,
    I'm Hélène from France.
    I work as a freelancer (proofreading and copywriting, mainly in the travel, natural health, nature and wildlife fields).
    I'm a slow life follower (in a nutshell) and a (slow) travel lover. I started travelling 20 years ago, as a backpacker and mostly solo. I've also lived abroad (Switzerland and Singapore). Five years ago, I left Paris and the city to live in the countryside and closer to nature (one of my wisest decision). Between May and June last year, I walked 4 weeks in France on the paths of Compostela. It made me realize I was keen to be "in motion" and that I needed to (finally) unleash my nomadself. But I don't want to be only a traveler/tourist, and even if my job makes me one of them, I don't feel like I belong to the digital nomads' community: I've tried it for 2 months in Madeira in 2023, it was nice and fun, but I was very disconnected from local people and local life and I spent most of my time with people like me, from all over the world, except from Madeira or even from Portugal. This is one of the reason why I want to travel with Workaway: live a more genuine experience, out of the touristic route and digital nomads' hubs. Another reason why I'm on Workaway is because my job requires to work on a laptop, and spending my day at a desk typing on a keyboard is something that makes less and less sense to me (even with a view on the beach!). Workaway is also an opportunity to "get out", to try and to learn new things, new skills, to find a new balance and to experience a life that (I assume) better suits me. It's been years now that I'm giving some thoughts regarding our Western world (whether it is how we work, live, eat, consume, interact with each other...), always coming to the conclusion that we took the wrong path, so I'm also happy to support projects from people who made the choice of a more sustainable, human- and nature-friendly life, who were able (unlike me :) to pick a place an develop long term projects.
    I like to see myself as a curious, open minded ans easy going person.
    I'm looking forward to opening this new chapter of my life and to see where it will lead me.
    Cheers,
    Hélène

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

    Due to my job and to my previous experience in the advertising industry (10 years), I have good writing skills and I'm comfortable with a lot of tasks related to communication (i.e. build a website, project management), but, as explained in my profile, I'm not really looking to spend more time on a computer (but I would be happy to help if I can).

    Regarding other skills, the garden is my favorite place and what I like the most is working with plants/trees: I do a lot in the huge garden of my parents that also have vines and 4 years ago I spent 10 days working with an organic vegetable farmer. I'm not afraid of manual work and to get my hands dirty. As a student, I did many different jobs to earn money (from bartending to administrative work). I'm curious, organized, smart (most of the time!), resourcefoul, adaptable. I would be more than happy to help and learn (fast) from people willing to teach me (which I did during my previous Workaway experiences thanks to amazing hosts).

    I see Workaway as an opportunity to learn about or improve my skills regarding (among other things):
    - growing vegetables, fruits, plants;
    - autonomy and sustainable lifestyle;
    - animal protection and care;
    - craftmanship (ceramic, furniture restoration, etc.);
    - environment and wildlife conservation.

  • Autres infos...

    - I never feel more happy than when I'm sourrounded by nature and live in a peaceful environment far away from the city.
    - Hiking is my thing. Wherever I am, I will certainly ask you about the hikes in the area and the natural sites around.
    - I studied naturopahty, not to become a therapist but because I was interested in its philosophical and holistic approach and wanted to learn how to best behave in ordrer to be and stay healthy and, hopefully, to be a better human being. This gave me strong guidelines to live with more consistency.
    - I like to share (I wouldn't be here otherwise), but it is also important to me to have my own personal time, this is also how I recharge my batteries.
    - I have a hard time dealing with chaos (and I don't really want to). Living in a clean and tidy environment does matter to me and I enjoy working with people who know what they want and have an idea of how to do it.
    - So far, managing my personal work and the Workaway life is going very well, having clear work schedule is usually very helpful though.
