Hello!

We're Nikki and Tom – a couple from Melbourne taking career breaks to travel, write, and get out of our day-to-day. We're both outdoorsy people who love to get stuck into new things.

Back home, Nikki is a copywriter and Tom works in consumer law. Outside of work, we like bouldering (we recently started learning how to lead climb!), hiking and fumbling through cryptic crosswords. Tom is a runner and tennis player and Nikki plays Aussie rules, futsal and loves a bit of pilates too.

If you invite us to spend some time in your workaway, you can expect a couple of respectful, engaged and thoughtful companions, albeit with a penchant for silly jokes and the odd wise crack. We love the chance to learn something new and will put plenty of care and hard work into the things you need done. We hope our time at workaways will help us re-shape the way we live, shake off some old habits and foster some new ones before we make our way back home.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

We're happy to give most things a crack, and (with a little guidance) would feel comfortable with things like:
- Gardening
- Cooking
- Manual labour
- Cleaning/upkeep
- Animal care
- General DIY (with a bit of instruction)
- Nice attitudes

While we don't have a huge amount of technical skills, we're both fit, strong, and good at following instructions! We're both big animal lovers (we have started our time in Canada as pet sitters!) and would love to learn how to care for more types of furry/feathered friends.

About Nikki:
Despite many years living in different houses and apartments, I've always been keen to get a garden going wherever I am. I can help with all the basics like watering, weeding, sowing, collecting seeds, harvesting, staking, and turning soil and compost.

I love everything about food and would love to cook some meals or bake some bread for you (I'm keen on pastries too although I'm still developing those skills!). I also love fixing/upcycling furniture and would be keen to learn a little more about building/construction if the opportunity arose.

About Tom:
I'm a pretty quick learner and am happy to have a crack at just about anything..! I'm a logical thinker and like working things out, but also know when it is better to ask questions to save time or be safe. My career has mostly involved office work but I'm happier outside and so am keen to improve my hands on and practical skills through workaways.

I am particularly interested in living a more sustainable and independent life and so would be quite keen to get involved in any kind of sustainable farming, fixing and maintaining all sorts of equipment, and anything off-grid related.
