I am currently living in Spain, where I've been working as an English teacher. On my free time I like to stay active playing sports and running. I also enjoy practicing on my ukulele.

Description

Hello I am Nico (26), I am a Mexican American from the United States. I am currently living in Spain where I have been working as an English teacher for the past two years. I plan to return to the United States in early August, but before I go back home, I want to volunteer and help others through workaway. I am open-minded and adaptable, most opportunites seem very exciting but it would be nice to find a spot that allows me to work with animals, in a garden learning permaculture, or socializing with others. I work well with others and indepently. I am self motivated and like to take initiative.

I am willing to create travel plans that align with workaway opportunities.

Both of my parents were born in Mexico and moved to the US in their early twenties. I have 3 older sisters that have always shown me a lot of love. I grew up learning and experiencing two cultures at the same time and it has helped spark my interest in learning about people, their experiences, and cultures. Because of this, for the last two years I have been living in Spain, Cadiz for one year and Malaga for the other. These two years have been an incredible experience, I have my friends from many diverse backgrounds, we've created livelong friendships, and have gone on amazing traveling adventures. One of my favorite memories is traveling to Scotland and finding a beautiful spot next to a lake to camp for the night. We had a memorable evening swimming, talking about our dreams, and star gazing. When the rain came unexpectedly in the middle of the night we gathered our supplies and helped keep each other dry. We carried on with our trip and continued to have an amazing time!

Relating to work I have varying experience. I have worked 3 summers in a wood workshop. I have learned the basics, overall feel comfortable with tools in my hands and am excited to learn more about carpentry. I am familiar with labor and outdoor work. I have also worked with students for a couple of years teaching math and English. My students' ages have ranged from 5 years old to adults. I feel confident and comfortable talking to new people and with public speaking.

I have played football for almost 20 years! I created a coed beach football team with my family and friends. I included a photo, can you spot my dad in the picture? Can you spot my sister? I also play the ukulele on my free time, I like learning new tunes. Even though I am still learning I like sharing with people that like music. I also like to run, most recently I completed a 5k and a half marathon with my friend. I also like going out for a drink, playing board games, and playing volleyball with friends. I like the philosophy of getting comfortable with the uncomfortable. I see challenges as an opportunity to grow.

I want to travel for the purpose of connecting with others. I know that's possible where ever my next destination is. This is why I am open to travel anywhere while I am here in europe. I would love to try the local food. If I could learn something from a new place it would be about a longstanding tradition, or a fun dance.

I speak English and Spanish and I'm currently learning German, I made a couple german friends, this motivated me to learn and expand my knowledge.
