Hallo!
My name is Mika, I'm 22 years old and from the Netherlands, I joined Workaway to finally be able to see more of our planet and make friends all around the world! I made the decision after finishing my education in hospitality and managership. In the last year of my education I got the chance to travel abroad to Ireland, where I had an amazing time which sparked my enthusiasm for travelling!
I’m an enthusiastic and hard-working person by nature, and I love to be challenged! I don’t mind getting my hands dirty, as I love working with animals and farm life in general. I enjoy being outdoors and photographing anything I find even remotely interesting.
I love watching movies and art, I also like talking about and listening to music, I recently started practising a bit of piano (big emphasis on recently) with which I might need a bit of help, to be honest.
What I’m most interested in is learning about new cultures, nature, making friends, sharing and making stories together.
I believe that through Workaway I will see these beautiful countries through the eyes of the people who live there instead of a tourist’s point of view.
My travels since March 2024 have already taken me through Norway, Sweden and Denmark, France and Spain, and over these months, I have made so many special memories and lasting connections.
I am currently traveling through southern europe and plan to be in Italy for the summer before (hopefully) going to Asia!

I'd love to learn some Italian and French. Maybe brush up my german a bit! I'm very interested in learning a new language, and I think the most practical way is by actually speaking and conversing with someone in that language!

I'd say I'm a very reliable and hard-working person,
I'm interested and always looking forward to learning new things from other people.
I enjoy working with others and consider myself to be quite social, and I'm always there to lend a hand when needed.
Because of my education, I have a lot of experience with management and hospitality, and I'm sure that the skills I learned will prove to be useful!
I also have some knowledge of marketing.
I worked with a marketing team in Ireland for about 4 months and learned a lot there!
When I came back to work in the Netherlands I took over the role of marketing at my job, this ranged from doing the photography and editing, managing the social media accounts and keeping the website updated!

I love baking, and I have been told my brownies and chocolate chip cookies are some of the best they ever have (their words, not mine). I also enjoy improving my cooking skills, with risotto as my signature dish! I have been very much into hiking since coming to Norway, though my calves could use some more training.
