I am currently based in Jerusalem and I am interested in farmwork and cultural exchange opportunities.

Hi!

I am from Australia, 28 years old. I am in Jerusalem for the next year and would love to have cultural exchange opportunities to learn about people and life here. Last year, I volunteered on many farms, picking apples, avocados, olives, and other fruits in Metula, Shemora, Gezer, and Dekel.

I've also volunteered in Indonesia on an organic farm and teaching english as a second language to kids in a remote village, as well as helping out with local and sustainable tourism projects. I was supposed to be there for six weeks and loved the family so much, I stayed eight months!

I've also volunteered on a cattle farm with a lovely family in Canada for six weeks, and have done volunteer work in China at a hostel for a couple of weeks.

I have a degree in psychology, and am currently studying international law and human rights. I have experience with children, and I used to run a non-profit organisation in Australia in women's rights.

I previously lived in Mexico for two years, so I also speak Spanish.

I am very happy to be flexible in the type of work, depending on what you're looking for. I absolutely love farm work, but I'm also really happy to have a special experience with a family, doing language exchange, babysitting, housework, or working at a hostel or for a community project.

I think workaway is a very special platform and I really value the meaningful and mutually beneficial experience it can provide.

I also really want to learn Hebrew and Arabic while I am here! :)

Natsir is the most amazing, warm hearted, inspiring human I've met. Natsir is a passionate environmental activist and social worker. I promise you, meeting him will inspire you. In the time I was there, I met over 30 other volunteers - all of whom found Natsir to be the most inspiring person they'd met. The work for the project itself ranges, depending on your skills and interests. Teaching and working in the garden are only two of the many jobs to be done. If you have interest in building the course outline further/providing further structure to the school system, writing creative content for the project's website, designing/creating promotional materials for local craftsman, ideas for boosting local and sustainable tourism, videography/photography, art, music, anything you can think of that you love and would love to share with the community! ALL will be of help. Natsir is suuuuper laid back, so the volunteering experience is more of a living experience with the chance to learn about and get involved in their community. You will learn a lot about life in Tana Toraja - their culture, history and beliefs, and current day dynamics of society. Natsir is super knowledgable, loves to talk and always happy to share in conversation. You will meet super cool people at Natsir's! Depending on the time of year, it could be likely that your stay will coincide with other volunteers who come from all over the world. During eight months, I probably only had three or four weeks in total where I was the only volunteer - mostly there was at least one other volunteer, usually two, often three, and occasionally 8! There are four bedrooms for volunteers, two in Natsir's house and two in his mother's house (next door to each other on the same property). There are also two bungalows for volunteers or guests to stay in. Each room fits two people comfortably, though there is almost always enough space for each volunteer to have their own room. Accomodation is basic but not primitive. The houses have electricity, so you will be able to charge your phones if needed. The water comes straight from their well and the food from their garden. There are two bathrooms which are shared by the family and volunteers - squat toilet and cold bucket shower. If you choose to volunteer at Natsir's project, you will have an amazing experience! Living with Natsir's family will provide you a feeling of home in a foreign place, it will provide you a community, a sense of appreciation, understanding, deeper relationships, and a lot of fun! From making chocolate, to cooking with Diana, to teaching, working in the garden, day tripping to waterfalls, hot springs, and amazing five-hundred year old cultural sights - Tana Toraja is an unbelievable place and Natsir's home is the place to experience it.
