Hello! I'm Lucy from the U.S., I've lived most of my life in Arizona, but have spent many summers taking advantage of seasonal jobs in beautiful places! I've always done my best to travel with whatever means I have, to encounter new ideas and experience many different ways of living. I would describe myself as kind, open-minded, thoughtful and genuinely interested in helping and learning. I love connecting with people over food and I love to learn other people's stories. We have so much to learn from one another! I also believe in the power of laughter and do my very best not to take life too seriously. I'm hoping to acquire some new skills, especially in carpentry and cooking. I am hungry for new experiences and have a very strong work ethic!

I just graduated from university with a degree in Environmental and Sustainability Studies this past May and am excited to be exploring Europe and broaden my horizons. In my studies, I learned about the intersection between social and environmental issues and have become a passionate social justice and environmental advocate. While I've learned a lot in classroom settings, I've learned the most from pursuing new and eccentric volunteer and work opportunities. The wild world has so much to teach me and I want to experience alternative lifestyles that are not based in consumption, capitalism, and individualism. I believe the only way to healing our society is through community and reciprocity, and it is my dream to find Workaway opportunities where I can witness the power of community living first hand.

My skills include gardening, cooking, cleaning, childcare, volunteer coordination, and basic carpentry. I have worked many outdoor jobs and am not afraid to get my hands dirty! Physical labor is my favorite kind!

I consider myself to be a writer and a poet, and spend time each day reading and writing in my journal. The lens through which I view the world is both honest and optimistic. I feel like a witness to my life and that of others' and I’m so grateful to get to be alive each day to absorb more of that magic! I’m hoping to connect with people that also see all the love in the world and are working towards creating a better future for all.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I have a lot of experience working outdoors on my feet for long hours. I've worked at summer camps with children ages 12-17, where we'd spend whole days scuba diving, sailing, kayaking, and hiking. I have also been an au pair in Spain for the past month for two children ages 8 and 10, living with a host family to assist with English learning.

I'm also a recently certified as a Wilderness First Responder, meaning I have emergency first aid medical training specialized for outdoor expeditions. I love to cook and clean and am interested in helping with any and all household tasks. I am handy with a tool kit and would love to help with any repairs or building project you are working on!

I've also worked in multiple restaurants as a hostess, server, and bartender and am interested in assisting with any hospitality or service!

Finally, I love to sing and dance and can often be caught whistling a tune, plunking out a melody on the guitar or piano, and it's my dream to learn how to play the banjo and the harmonica at the same time!
