AMBASSADOR OF ITALIANITY

My name is Loris, I’m 28 years old and Italian. I was born in Turin, Italy’s first capital, but part of my family comes from Sicily, where I spend my summers helping to run our small family hotel.
I hold a degree in Philosophy, I’m passionate about history, and I’m an avid reader of social criticism. I work as a journalist, naturally drawn to digging beneath appearances and giving a voice to those who don’t have one.

For me, Workaway is a wonderful tool for cultural exchange: on one side it allows me to share my Italy — a country full of poetry, art, and contradictions (not only “pasta, pizza and mafia”) — and on the other, it gives me the chance to immerse myself in the daily life of another family and another country, to truly understand its traditions. It’s an intense and authentic experience, very different from a traditional holiday of hotels and restaurants behind the surface of a selfie.
I can cook the best pasta in the world (yes, including carbonara!) and I often bring food gifts like cheese and condiments from my local deli. But I could also tell you the story of Italy: the poetry of Dante and the genius of Leonardo, the courage of Enrico Toti and the vision of Enrico Mattei, the audacity of Marco Polo and the science of Galileo, the heroism of Garibaldi and the voice of Domenico Modugno. At the same time, I would be equally happy to learn the customs, flavors, and stories of the countries that host me.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Besides Italian cooking, my special obsession is cleaning: I simply can’t go to bed if the dinner dishes are still dirty, and the vacuum cleaner is my best friend. Behind my passionate, typically Italian character hides a love for order, punctuality, and commitment to any task I take on.
I’m not very skilled with manual work, but I bring other strengths: I’m a writer, I can help with texts, and I’m always up for deep conversations on philosophy, history, or the meaning of life. And at 1.85 m tall, I’m the perfect person to reach the top shelves.

I enjoy sports: I practice bodybuilding and I’m a Juventus supporter. My idea of paradise includes a good football match on TV, genuine food, and a glass of wine. And yes, I do drive — like a Ferrari driver, but safely!
