Description
We are a family of 5 from Ohio who have spent the last several years creating a life centered around travel, connection, nature, and intentional living. Mama Juniper, Papa Logan, our son Bloom (6), daughters Luna (5) and Korra (1) ✨

Over the years, we’ve had many different seasons of life. We spent several years traveling full time in our renovated school bus, exploring different parts of the U.S. and learning through experience, community, and adventure.

The past two years, we’ve been based in North Carolina building deeper roots, friendships, and community. Now we’re feeling called into a new chapter. We’re currently preparing to travel through Costa Rica with open minds and open hearts, and potentially explore making it a more permanent home in the future. Right now, we’re simply going with the flow and staying open to meaningful experiences, beautiful spaces, and aligned connections along the way 🌱

Our last Workaway experience was in 2021, where we spent nearly a year living and working on a blueberry and chestnut farm in Ohio. It was such a grounding and rewarding season for our family, and it deepened our love for slower living, hands-on work, and shared community experiences.

Juniper works in the digital marketing realm and has a wide variety of creative passions. She has experience as a photographer, birth doula, artist, and is currently in training to become a somatic practitioner. She has a deep passion for wellness, holistic health, creativity, and supporting others in meaningful ways 🌸

Logan is an incredibly grounded and hands-on father who truly thrives caring for our family and home. He’s adaptable, hardworking, and enjoys learning practical new skills. He brings a steady and supportive energy wherever we go and genuinely enjoys helping create warm, functional, welcoming spaces, whether it be cooking, cleaning, organizing, or creating a fun space of play with our kiddos.

Between all of us, we have a wide variety of ways to support any host. We’re open-minded, easygoing, respectful, and always willing to learn new skills. More than anything, we value genuine connection, intentional living, and the opportunity to share meaningful experiences with others 🌻

Martin is without a doubt the most generous person we have ever met. He welcomed our family with open arms and has become a great friend of ours. Never hesitating to stop what he was doing to help someone out, he was great teacher who had no qualms re-explaining things until you felt comfortable and knowledgeable! He invited everyone into his home… read more like it was their own, opening it up for laundry, indoor showers, communal meals, and sometimes just hanging out, playing chess, and talking about music, farming, and life. On so many occasions he allowed us to borrow his car to go into town, and would offer the shirt off his back to anyone in need. Always such a pleasure to talk with, Martin is overall an amazing human being 😊

We were traveling in our own renovated school bus, and had access to electrical hook-ups to power our appliances. Other options to stay in were a couple roomy RV's, a room in the barn, a cozy little hut with a wood-burning stove (a perfect option during the cold months), or tent camping. There was a communal kitchen with electricity, ample fridge/freezer space, dish washing station, and other cooking supplies. Martin was always sure to make sure everyone had food and kept the kitchen well-stocked, bringing in most things that people requested. While the space was rustic, we were comfortable and grateful for all the amenities.

There is an array of tasks to do at the farm, especially if you are there for an extended time through the seasons. Martin was extremely flexible with letting us decide what we wanted to work on and when. When we first got there in April we did a lot of tidying up in preparation for new workers, pruned the blueberry bushes, prepared the garden, fertilized the crops, and did a lot of mowing. The summer is blueberry season, and we spent a most of those months picking blueberries, freezing them, working the check-out stand for U-pick berries, and running farmers markets. The time in between blueberry and chestnut seasons was slower, with different projects of all sorts ~ composting, gardening, painting, building, cleaning, etc. Once chestnut season begins, a majority of the work involves picking the nuts and again, a whole lot of mowing!

The land itself is beautiful and full of such amazing life ~ A vast view of a nearby forest, growing chestnut trees surrounding you, a thriving apple tree, an abundance of plants and flowers all around, and the plentiful garden that provided us with so much nourishment for the months we were there.

As our first workaway experience, we were so grateful to have had Martin as our host. His kindness, knowledge, generosity, humor, and patience were so humbling. We are so excited for the next time we visit him and this amazing place. 🌻
