Hi! I’m Lizzie, I’m 22 years old from North Wales. I’m currently on a year out after graduating university, and I’m planning on an eight-month backpacking trip across Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

While I’m traveling, I hope to do a few WorkAways along the way. Since doing my first WorkAway a couple of years ago, I’ve been excited to do another one day, as I learnt a lot from my last host, and I have a deep appreciation for the exchange of skills and culture that this platform provides. I’ve done a bit of travelling in between working and studying, but nothing as big as this trip, and I’m excited to meet new people, learn new skills, get to know some new cultures a little better and enjoy some beautiful parts of the world!

I have a lot of appreciation and love for the natural world, and having grown up in North Wales, one of my favourite things to do is hike in the mountains or along the coastline with friends and family. I also studied Biology at university, and have had the opportunity to learn about and contribute towards conservation-based research areas during my undergrad studies. I’m really grateful to have had these experiences, as they have helped me to understand the importance of protecting our natural world and enjoying the beauty it has to offer.

Since graduating, I have been working as a bookings clerk for the NHS while staying active in my local community. This has included volunteering at my local climbing club for children with additional needs, and spending a couple of hours each week with care home residents to chat and keep them company.

I am a calm, easy-going and cooperative person who enjoys reading, meditation, cooking, and staying active through running, yoga and gymnastics. I am keen to meet people from all walks of life, share what I know, and learn as much as possible from others. Hope to hear back from you soon :)

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I have worked as a Team Member for KFC and have experience working in a fast paced and social environment.

I have experience as a research assistant with Operation Wallacea, helping to collect data via quadrats and opportunistic sampling on transects in Krka National Park in Croatia which contributed to the Operation Wallacea datasets for use in various projects.

My prior WorkAway involved helping with daily household duties, including cleaning, cooking and general household maintenance tasks (sanding, painting etc.). Gardening jobs included weeding, planting vegetables, laying gravel and carrying heavy stones to create a driveway, and making a small permaculture.

I also have prior experience volunteering at my local zoo, managing the hands-on day-to-day care of animals under the categories of paddocks, cats, primates, birds, farm and reptiles. Main duties included preparing food and feeding animals, cleaning out enclosures and changing bedding, checking enclosures for signs of wear or damage, monitoring conditions like temperature and humidity, and keeping daily animal welfare records.

I really enjoy cooking and baking, and have been doing both for many years so am happy to offer any help in the kitchen :)
